What fun. I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Marshall a few times, and he's terrific, such enthusiasm for all things baseball. Nice guy, too. When he outbid me for the WaJo Horner cabinet at the Christies's auction in '96, he came over and apologized!

I have to admit, that was impressive to see just a little of his collection. I didn't now he had as much memorabilia as he does. I think I'm still more impressed by Barry Halper's collection though. Just because of how he acquired his items a lot of times from the players personally and not just with super deep pockets. But I am impressed with this collection. No doubt.

There are one or two members here whose collection I would be more interested in seeing. Not taking anything away from his collection but condition rarity doesn’t do it for me like absolute rarity does.

There is no wrong way to collect and this is truly an amazing collection.

That '55 Bowman mantle 10 looks like it would grade a 7 today.

I am guessing most of his cards were graded quite a long time ago when standards were more lenient. I would be less concerned about that than if some were not entirely natural. Hopefully that is not the case. But reality being what it is, it would not surprise me. Either way quite a remarkable achievement.

The LOC also has an impressive collection. The online version is had to use, but they have a good collection.

Yes, the majority of these have been altered, and most were graded back when today's NM cards were given 10s & 9s. But it's still an epic collection that I'd be ecstatic to own. I just choose to ignore the fact that 80% of the value in his collection comes from the holders rather than the cards and focus on how cool the cards themselves still are.

Just watched the video. I noticed that many of his cards appeared to have the MBA Sticker on the front of the slabs. I was curious as to what are the opinions of some of you regarding that?

I look at that and just think about PWCC's High End/Top % designation. And have no interest in any card with that sticker.

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

In the past (i.e. pre-pandi), it seemed like the PWCC stickers drove prices up for those items, typically well above the historical price, often 30-50%. It could be that there were auction shenanigans coming into play, because you never know.

Am I a fan? Not really. And particularly not a fan if I have to pay a big fat premium to get it.

I don't care about the stickers personally. I wouldn't pay a premium for a card that has one. But if it was priced fairly and I wanted it I would buy it but not for the sticker. Just because I want it.

I saw it like he was having fun showing the hobby and/or public his passion. I am guessing he has connections to get something re-holdered if he wants to. If it's about having fun, as we all say it should, then he was living it in that video. My 1st national (I think), maybe 2nd, it was around '99 or 2000, I had dinner with him, Scott B, Doug Allen and one other person, whom I don't remember. That was an interesting night.
For me, personally, I collect rarity but that doesn't diminish his collection an iota. It's a historic and great collection, he has. All things considered, that '52 Mantle, is possibly the nicest baseball card in existence. And this coming from someone who, if value was no consideration, would rather have lot's of other cards. Great stuff!

The best thing about Marshall's collection is that he's a lovely guy.

Years ago when I was a big '38 Goudey collector I reached out to him to see if he had any dupes. We had an outstanding exchange of emails, he is a really knowledgeable guy and happy to share his knowledge, which is not something everyone does.

We've had a number of very pleasant conversations over the years, and I'm always left thinking he's just a great guy.

I found myself looking at the stuff on the walls in the video, which seems just as cool as the cards.
