Kinda feel like this could be a sign that we've reached peak froth.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...n/76477492007/ Of course, prophets of doom who keep predicting doom are bound to be right sooner or later. Something about predicting 27 of the last 5 recessions. But for my money, $6M+ could buy a lot more exciting stuff than some banana (with duct tape), even if it has been anointed as fine art by the cognoscenti.

And the winner doesn't even get the banana—only permission to tape a different banana to the wall and say it's this particular artwork.

Williams Sonoma is having no problem with inventory, sales, or profit. Whatever money crunch much of the world is experiencing, it's not effecting their clientele. The beginning of the pandemic shutdowns (early 2000) put a lot of stress on the investor class, but by late-summer/fall 2000 there was plenty of money to be made if you had excess investment income that wasn't trying to cover rent and groceries. |

As an aside that's related to the artwork. The banana and tape are not the actual artwork, the rights to post the banana + duct tape and proper instructions for how to do it is what's actually being sold. It's quite similar to the NFT market, though not the same. |

If you can get a fresh green banana untreated by retail store gasses it will last for months and turn really slowly to yellow.

But keep in mind that you’re not buying that *specific* jar of peanut butter. You’re buying a license to tape your *own* jar of peanut butter to the wall, and a certificate of authenticity. You could make yours creamy if you want.

LOLOL. Just too much of a generation gap for me. Carry on, cryptobro.
The buyer on Wednesday was Justin Sun, founder of the Tron blockchain network, who outbid six others in the auction. He paid in crypto, Reuters reported. "This is not just an artwork," Reuters reported Sun telling Sotheby's in a statement shortly after the purchase. "It represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community. I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history."

And of course it's "expert" opinion that determines whether a piece of artwork is "fine" or not. Therefore if a 150 year old painting is found in a garage and it's adjudged to have been painted by Vincent Van Gogh, it's "worth" $millions. But if it's adjudged to have been painted by some other painter living down the street, it won't fetch a euro. But of course it's the same painting and its quality hasn't changed. ![]()

Don,
You carry on with your Avant-Garde work. The peasants and nay sayers will always have something to say. The banana art is a cheap imitation of Andy Warhols album cover art. Peanut butter with blue trim tape is inspired.
