AUTOGRAPHS RECENT ACQUISITIONS 100) JIM BOTTOMLEY The most luscious 3x5 you will ever see on this "Toughie" Perfect cream colored 3x5 index card. Clean in every respect , no typing , lines, smudges etc. Signed hugely across the middle in blue fountain pen. Comes with formal LOA's from JSA & Jim Stinson Sports. If that is not enough will also include an unsigned 8x10 photo of "Sunny Jim" Bottomley posed with Rogers Hornsby. Bottomley's autograph is becoming tougher to locate as he died in 1959 Decades before his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. $650.00 101) WILLIS E. "KID" BUTLER Vintage 3x5 index card orignates from the "Wingler" collection. Comes with an unsigned reprint of his T-206 card for display. Very tough autograph played only a portion of one major league season in 1907 for the Browns. He died in 1964. $250.00 102) VERNE CLEMONS short handwritten note measures 3 1/2 x 4, orignates from the Fred Arnold collection. Tape stains on edges do not touch the signature in any way. Originates from the Ralph Winnie collection. Comes with an unsigned original "Brace" 8x10 photo of Bradley in Browns uniform. Outfielder played in four games for the Browns in 1946. A tough autograph despite the fact that He died in 1982. $150.00 105) DODE CRISS Signature removed from a personal check and attached to a 3x5. Originates from the Bob Duvall collection. Criss was a pitcher and 1st baseman for the Browns from 1908-1911 considered by Baseball Historian Bill James to have been the first player in major league baseball to be used as a pinch hitter regularly. He died in 1955. $150.00 106) FRANK "PORKY" BISCAN heavy stock card signed in pencil. Measures 2 x 3 1/2. Comes with an unsigned original "Brace" 8x10 photo of Biscan pictured in Browns uniform. Has signed the return address portion and also written "Detroit Tigers Detroit Michigan" Caster was a pitcher for the 1934-1935 & 1937-40 Athletics the 1941-1945 Browns including the pennant winning 1944 team. Also pitched for the 1945-1946 Tigers. Measures 4x5. A pitcher for the 1920-1921 Browns and 1928 Pirates. Also brieftly managed the 1947 Pirates he is best remembered as a coach for the World Champion 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates. Died-1973. $100.00 114) BULLET JOE BUSH 3x5 index card signed in ball point. Pitched a no-hit game in 1916 with a 1st inning walk being the only thing that prevented a perfect game. Died-1974. $75.00 115) GEORGE BLAEHOLDER Vintage 3 1/2 x 6 page signed boldly in fountain pen. Comes with an original 8x10 "Brace" photo of Blaeholder in Browns uniform. Pitcher credited with having invented the slider. Pitched for the 1925, 1927-35 Browns, 1935 Athletics & 1936 Cleveland. Considered to have been one of the greatest defensive first baseman of his era he had an amazing .402 on base pct. As the photo was signed during his playing career. He played for the 1925 Washington Senators, 1926-27 Browns and 1929 Brooklyn. Truly unique item inside various sports stars and friends have signed and written their address and phone numbers on the pages , signatures include, MR & MRS LLOYD WANER, BOB FELLER, some of the pages are loose includes some other names I don't recognize and could be personal friends of Roush $50.00 124) JIMMY AUSTIN SIGNED IMPORTANT AND HISTORIC DOCUMENT Measures 7 x 10 1/2 and is written on the letterhead of "Atlantic Lithograph & Printing Company" dated 11/29/1921 requesting permission to use his image in an upcoming card issue set. Austin writes "Yes, you may include my picture in this series JAMES P. AUSTIN" originates from the famous Conlon/Lieb "Find" what is amazingly ironic about the letter is that Conlon had planned to use his photos to produce a set of baseball cards , a printers strike and eventually the Depression prevented the set from ever being issued until DECADES later. In addition Conlon was the photographer and Austin was the 3rd baseman in possibly the most famous baseball photo ever taken , that of Ty Cobb sliding into 3rd base with Austin's back to the camera.
