100) BANQUET SPORTS PROGRAM AUTOGRAPHED BY 24 SPORTS LEGENDS AND NOTABLES Program for the 16th Annual B'nai B'rith Sports Lodge Bill Corum Memorial Dinner held at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York, on January 21, 1967, 8.5 x 11, 84 pages, signed on the front cover in felt tip and ballpoint by a number of athletes and sports notables. Signers include: Benny Friedman (2), Casey Stengel, Frank Frisch, Lefty Grove, Jim Crowley, Weeb Ewbank, Frank Robinson, Bob Murphy, Bob Considine, Ralph Houk, Joe Lapchick, Hank Bauer, Gertrude Ederle, Joe Morrison, Mrs. Babe Ruth, Mrs. Lou Gehrig, and Frank Hunter. In very good condition, with scattered soiling, light creases, and a clipped lower right corner to the front cover. $550.00
101) JACKIE ROBINSON COMPLETE PERSONAL CHECK made out entirely in his own hand and dated 6/7/1959. Check is written to Magistrate Court as payment for a parking fine. Normal bank cancel stamps and perforations. There is a small light bank cancel stamp close to the top portion of the signature which is hardly noticible a fine Robinson check. An iconic figure not only in baseball but in American history. He was the 1st African American in the major leagues playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. He won "Rookie of the Year" honors that same season and won the "Most Valuable Player Award" in 1949. Inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 he died in 1972. $950.00
102) MAX CAREY SENSATIONAL THREE PAGE HANDWRITTEN LETTER 1912 WRITTEN TO HIS WIFE WITH AMAZING CONTENT PRIOR TO OPENING DAY IN ONLY HIS 3RD SEASON IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES All are individual pages written one to a side dated April 9TH 1912 on the ornate letterhead of "Hotel Henry Watterson" hotel in Louisville Kentucky. pages measure 6 x 9 1/2 written by a then aspiring Hall of Famer. Great baseball content and references to being on the road in the early days of baseball , reads in part "Hello Hon, Friend, Wife Ha !, Still in Louisiville its raining and it looks like we are snagged for a couple of days the opening game has been postphoned and if it clears up the season will open up Friday but it looks like it won;t , Mrs Camnitz asked where you were and I told her when you would come to Pittsburgh Tonight a bunch of us went to see a vaudeville show and it was good I think you would have liked it. Of course I haven't heard from home yet but I expect to when I get to Cinci if we ever get there , the floods have torn things up around here and it was awful around Terre Haute Gee ! how tomorrow is the 10th and then you slide in here and you are safe at home , well I can stand it easy. The time will go a little slow but you'll be with me soon or rather I'll be with you. I certainly miss my snugglin and kisses and you know...everything, but I'll appreciate it more when I see you again. I always feel like I haven't done something or forgot something but I guess its just you. Darling love and hundreds of kisses , Your loving hubby .."Skip" Normal letter folds. Have weakened on this letter which is over 100 years old and were mended on the reverse in a few portions with tape which is not visible from the front. Carey led the league in stolen bases 10 times ! His career 738 stolen bases is 9th highest in major league history. Played for the Pirates 1910-1926 and Brooklyn from 1926-29 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1961 and died in 1976. $175.00
103) ARKY VAUGHAN Vintage government postcard signed boldly in fountain pen. Early Vaughan Signature postmarked on reverse 3/11/1936. Only very minor barely noticible toning. As fine a Vaughan signed item as you are likely to find. 1935 Batting champion he played for the 1932-41 Pirates, 1942-43 & 1947-48 Brooklyn Dodgers , a tough autograph he drowned in a boating accident in 1952 and was not inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame until over three decades after his death in 1985. $550.00
104) MICKEY COCHRANE Vintage Government postcard signed during his playing career postmarked on reverse 5/18/1936. Considered one of the greatest catchers of his era he won the "Most Valuable Player" award in 1928 & 1934. Played for the Athletics 1925-1933 and the Tigers 1934-1937. GPC has a barely noticable vertical crease in the center portion. Cochrane was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947 he died in 1962. $350.00
105) AL SIMMONS AUTOGRAPHED 1936 NATIONAL CHICLE FINE PEN POSTCARD PHOTO fountain pen signature on the light portion of the photo. measures 3 1/4 x 5 3/8. Very minor glue residue on reverse from where it was once attached to a page in a scrapbook. 1929 RBI leader while playing for the Athletics. Two time batting champion 1930 & 31. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953 and died in 1956. $450.00
106) ROGERS HORNSBY Vintage fountain pen signature from an autograph album page measures aprox 3 1/2 x 2 attached to a larger 4 1/2 x 6 page. Perfect for display. Considered to be one of the greatest right handed hitters of all time He was "Most Valuable Player" in 1925 & 1929 and won Baseball's Triple Crown twice. Inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1942 he died in 1963. $350.00
107) ED BARROW AUTOGRAPHED NEW YORK YANKEES CHECK 1939 Measures 3 1/4 x 9, Dated May 31st , 1939 To Roy Merritt and endorsed by him on the reverse. Signed on the front by Hall of Famer ED BARROW Yankees executive Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953 he died in 1953. $100.00
108) HANK RUSZKOWSKI & WILLIAM HARRIDGE SIGNED 1948 CLEVELAND INDIANS PLAYERS CONTRACT Standard 4 page players contract measures aprox 8 1/2 x 11. Signed on page 3 by Cleveland's business manager and also signed by player HANK RUSZKOWSKI who's major league career was brief. Playing for Cleveland in 1944-45 and again in 1947. He died in 2000. Fully executed contract is also signed by league President WILLIAM HARRIDGE who was AL President from 1931-1959. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 a year after his death in 1971. $250.00
109) LYMAN LINDE & WILLIAM HARRIDGE SIGNED 1948 CLEVELAND INDIANS PLAYERS CONTRACT Standard 4 page players contract measures aprox 8 1/2 x 11. Signed on page 3 by Cleveland's business manager and also signed by player LYMAN LINDE who's major league career was brief. Playing for Cleveland in 1947-48 He died in 1995 One of the tougher autographs to find from the 1948 Cleveland Indians team which many historians consider one of the 10 greatest teams in history. Fully executed contract is also signed by league President WILLIAM HARRIDGE who was AL President from 1931-1959. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 a year after his death in 1971. $250.00
110) EDDIE WAITKUS Vintage autograph album page measures 4 1/2 x 6. Signed nicely in fountain pen. A two time member of the All Star team he played from 1941-1955 for the Phillies, Cubs & Orioles. He is best remembered however as the real life inspiration for the book & film "The Natural" when he was shot and almost killed by a deranged female fan he did not know in 1949 in a Chicago Hotel. The page is also signed by DEL ENNIS, JIM KONSTANTY, LUCKY LOHRKE & STEVE RIDZIK The Waitkus autograph however is well away from the others and could be displayed seperately. He died in 1972. $150.00
111) JOHNNY HUMPHRIES Vintage 3x5 index card originates from the Karl Wingler collection. A pitcher from 1938-46 for Cleveland, White Sox & Phillies he died in 1965. $50.00
112) CLARENCE "DUTCH" HOFFMAN Vintage 3x5 index card originates from the Karl Wingler collection , Played part of one season in the major leagues in 1929 for the Chicago White Sox. A tough autograph he died in 1962. $150.00
113) HONEST EDDIE MURPHY 3x5 index card. Played from 1912-1921 & 1926 for the Athletics, White Sox and Pirates. A member of the infamous 1919 White Sox. He died in 1969 $50.00
114) ELMER STRICKLETT 3x5 index card signed on the lined side. Considered to be the inventor of the spitball he was a pitcher for the 1904 White Sox and 1905-07 Brooklyn teams. He died in 1964. $175.00
