Any Uzit is, of course, a big time score. And Tinker would be ultra cool. I think if it is the portrait it would bring more than the other poses. And a psa4..well into 5 digits I think. Dave

An Uzit PSA 4 on the back of a HOF? I would say at least $8,000, and probably over 10K. I would like to see the scan, though.

It has a lot going for it:
1) UZIT 2) Nice Condition 3) HOFer 4) Cub 5) Hall of Fame Cub in nice condition w/ an Uzit back!! I hope you own this card are have the ability to get it. At one time I was working on a Cubs master set of all back types and this would have been a holy grail. You just need to find one of the gazillion T206 Cubs guys that is also working on the back variations and this card is easily worth $10,000 if you get a few fighting over it.

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea it was worth that much. This card is now one of my most valuable cards I own. I have it listed in the BST forum should I list it on ebay? or consign it to a auction house?

Seems to me that if you put it in the correct auction house, 5 digits would certainly be possible.

John,
I'll pm you to maintain the integrity of this thread so it doesn't turn into a b/s/t post. *I see you posted it on b/s/t for offers. Nice bait job here on the forum side.

I think 5 digits is quite a stretch. A psa 2 or 3 Hughie Jennings (HOFer) with a UZIT back just sold for like $2,000 on Ebay two months ago. I would say 4-6K is reallistically what this would fetch at an auction house.

With selling this card, you can buy a bunch of 80's rack packs that match the year on the box

Not really, it was a PSA 2 or 3 can't quite remember exactly but I was watching it very closely. The card was actually pretty nice for the grade, sold for a little over 2K. I think you could be thinking of another.

In this lovely internet era, every step of the way for most cards is easily traced and sale prices are easily produced. There's always an eTrail to follow dating back to the late 90's

Are there examples beyond the Jennings that support a value of only a few thousand dollars for HOFers in a 2-4 grade range? I would be surprised to see the card in this thread go for 4-6k at auction but I've been out of the back craze for a few years so maybe I'm off. The other question to ask ourselves is how much is it worth if we owned it.

I think it is a solid card, though it does have a light crease which does not really show up in the scans. I have seen at least 4 of this front/ back combo over the years, and I am certain there are more out there, so it is not necessarily a rare Uzit. However, it is one of my favorite images, so my Dad and I were excited to add this one to our collection. |

The same exact price that has been quoted for the OP....It is what it is. Everybody overvalues their cards.....until reality sets in and if you wanna actually sell it, you have to price accordingly or send it to auction and hope some sucker with a little jing in his pocket goes over his head and overpays because he "needs it". Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. It's a 4-6K card on a normal day.

Not right now it wouldn't, lol. I've had this discussion with a lot of members here trying to sell right now. Seems like many people are having a rough go of it right now in the BST sections. Too many members saving their money right now for REA and the National coming up. This is probably the worst time to have cards listed for sale right now. There's a lot of great deals on cards in BST section right now and they're just barely moving at all. A lot of us were contemplating pulling the listings and waiting until after the National.

HOF rare backs are hit or miss. I've seen some that you'd expect to go for a ton, sell low, and vice versa. 2 months ago I bought a clean PSA 1.5 McGraw Lenox back for only 1300. That is just slightly above a common price for that back. I've been told by Scot R that his back multiplier chart is just for commons, not HOFers. I believe it was also he who said his guess for HOFers would be about 1/2 of the common multiplier, maybe he could jump in here and explain why. But from my perspective I'd much rather have a common rare back and not pay any premium for a HOFer on the front. I think many back collectors would agree.
There's several tiers of HOFers, Tinker being on the lower end. Last edited by MVSNYC; 05-16-2013 at 07:31 AM. |

To each their own, but this back craze cracks me up. It is almost as if people are evolving to collecting tobacco advertising cards vs. baseball cards. Is this sustainable? Feels like a risky time to be buying into the craze right now. I would personally much rather have a T3 SGC 20 Johnson than a Lenox advertisement.
Again, not knocking what people like, just fascinated by the prices I've been seeing. |

Great card, but I'm surprised that after 44 replies, no one mentioned that it's overgraded. Should be a 2.5 at best due to the crease on the lower left.

I like the idea of collecting rare T206 backs but at this price I would rather own a E90-1 Shoeless Joe Jackson rookie card or a 1933 Goudey Lajoie #106 or a high grade 51 Bowman Mickey Mantle rookie card. I understand the importance of this card but when actually taking this amount of ones bank account I could not do it.

For me personally, I have fallen deeply in love with these T206 backs.
When my Dad and I first started collecting T206, we accumulated a very nice group of HOF, but with common backs. While it was fantastic, it was not challenging, whatsoever (unless you go for 7's and 8's, which is not my thing). We have slowly begun collecting tougher backs, with HOF as much as possible, and we do not plan on changing our direction any time soon. We love these tough backs and will continue to go after them. As a collector, I would LOVE to see prices come down!!!! But so far, it has only gotten more and more expensive to be in this rare backs game. No regrets, however. I dig the Uzit Tinker. Sweet combination! |
