Anyone know anything about this photo?

I've been holding this photo for awhile and have finally decided to post it on eBay tonight. I don't have too much information on it. I was hoping someone in this forum might have some more info. The only thing that I know, is that the photo is from the 1890's. There is also an ad behind the players that is partially visible which is from Portland Pros Sports Equipment.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

No info. to add other than that there are pretty cool "Columbia Bicycles" and "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes" ads behind the players.

You probably won't be able to identify these guys, but one interesting thing is the players look very old. A few guys in the back row look to be at least 40.

A 40 year old back then is like a 70 year old today.

I wonder if the dog sitting on the lap of one of the players was a mascot?

The reason the average life expectancy was so low then, was because of all the infant deaths from disease, in those pre-penicillin/antibiotic days. When those deaths were averaged in, the average life expectancy naturally dropped. So it wasn't that adults necessarily died younger then, it was factoring in the infant mortality rate that made the average life expectancy figure low.

Not completely true, Bob. At any age, a larger percentage of people died of infection, pneumonia, etc., than do so today.

The reason for shorter life expectancy was multi-factorial. This would include lack of vaccination, poor understanding of healthy living, lack of antibiotics(as mentioned), lack of treatment for life threatening illness(i.e. chemo for cancer), LACK OF ANTISEPTIC TECHNIQUE, insufficient surgical standard, etc. The list is long.
Sorry to go on, something I deal with daily.
Having said that, cool picture.

I don't think the man in the back row, second from left is John Titus. The man third from the left in the back row looks more like John Titus. I was going to attach a scan of my T206 John Titus, but I'm new to Net54 and don't know how to attach scans. I just set up a Photobucket account. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. Tim.

The ad to the left of the Sweet Cap sign appears to list an address at Commercial and Exchange Streets. The two cross in Worcester, MA. I'm strongly leaning towards a MA team.

Leon.....I read the instructions for posting a scan. I'm unable to find the "insert object" referred to. It doesn't appear on my screen when I bring up the "respond to message" page. I think I can finally attach a scan of my John Titus. It appears he more resembles the man third form the right in the back row(not second from right). What do you think?
