Default Today's Boston Globe/Bill Werber

There's a nice article on Bill Werber, baseball's oldest player at 99, written by Gordon Edes, in today's (Jan 20 '08) Boston Globe. Go to www.bostonglobe.com and look for the title, "Storied Career."

Here's Bill from the '41 Double Play set ... I wonder why he wasn't in any of the Play Ball sets? I collect the Reds from the Play Ball sets, and there are no Werbers or Lombardis in any of the three ...

It was sad to read the last few lines of the story. He's such a kind man. Players like Werber are the reason I (and many of you, I suspect) continue to be intrigued by baseball's golden age. Guess it goes without saying that the absence of such dignity on today's diamonds is the reason I have only watched one baseball game in the last 17 years.
