No red...always have had a preference for the "bat off" T206.

The red Cobb reminds me of when someone in the 20's called out in the stands, "Is there anyone here who DOESN'T have Babe Ruth's autograph?" The Babe was such a prolific autographer.

Although I actually like the bat off pose a little better, there is a real classic, almost archetypal quality to the red portrait Cobb.
Maybe I feel this way because it was one of the first two T206s I ever got back in 1979 or 80. In fact, it was the first T206 I ever saw in person. I had to have it and traded half my collection away to get it.

JimB,

I gotta admit the red portrait Cobb looks very distinctive, but the bat off shoulder looks like Cobb is almost ready for action.

Peter,
I agree completely. The bat-off captures the intensity with which I image he played. This is not to even mention the beautiful background colors!

Have one red Cobb, used to have two. This was my first Cobb card. I think, though, Chase blue will win these surveys (readily available, relatively cheap, cool blue portrait, intriguing player, etc).

I don't have a single vintage Cobb in my collection. Currently, I'm looking at a Cobb with bat off-shoulder. Also, I know where I can find an orange portrait Cobb. Is the orange portrait a variation or an error card, or is it just faded. LOL.

Peter,
I think the Orange Cobb is a legitimate variation, but there is some debate about it. If you do a search, you will probably find preious threads on this topic.

I had 2 Orange background Cobb's. A real nice one (Ex) and the one shown here.

Like JimB said he did in another thread....I too, sold the nice one. For the right customer
you can expect at least 50% more than the Red Cobb (for equal condition cards).

These Orange Cobb's are the result of the printers not applylng the final "reddish" tint
to the normally Red Cobb.

This one is about as orange as you'll find one....and, it has the look of a "snow scene".....
no extra premium for the snow.

2 of them--had them since I bought a huge lot of T-205 and T-206 in 1972. In that lot (about 1100 in all) were 4 Cobb reds, along with all the other Cobbs.

Sorry for dusting off an older thread but just found this buried on my hard drive. It was posted to this board a couple of years ago; maybe latecomers might like to see it. I think it is an absolutely cool image. I don't remember who the original poster was so I don't know if he is still active on the board. If you're still out there come forward and take a bow.

David, the original poster was Mike Wolf, a great guy whom I introduced to this site. That's his artwork. I don't think he reads N54 any more.

Great image Mike W... Joe Orlando's great granpa started slabbing in the early teens? Thanks for posting this David. I'd like to grab this graphic, with credit, if you please.
