I want to address something that has come to my attention. I want to post this seperate from the other thread, but will also include it there just to make sure people see it. |

Why not the Salvation Army rather than the Red Cross? The Salvation Army has much less of a "bottom line" and way more of their cash goes directly to helping people. The CEO of the Salvation Army earns $13K per year plus a housing stipend. The CEO of the ARC earns almost $500K with bonuses when donation quotas are met. |

I appreciate your thoughts and comments but a decision was made in lieu of the thread started by Josh. I'm not here to validate or argue over which organization is the most effectively run. |

I understand and appreciate your efforts and concern. Nor did I mean it to criticize your decision. However, I feel that since the goal is to give directly to the victims of Katrina, why not go with a charity that has much less of a bottom line, which in turn, helps more people directly.? I understand a decision has been made, and definately do not want to be a killjoy. Just wanted to express my opinion in case it hadn't been thought of. |

No offense taken. Because of the relationship we have with other entities involved, and our own contacts within the ARC, we feel like we can make more of a difference on their behalf. Also, as i said, this was a totally stolen idea (thanks Josh!) and the thread began with funds going to the ARC. The real answer in hindsight, is that it was the result of timing & place rather than a decision based on one organizations qualifications over another. |

It's not an either or situation. A board member can both bid on an item in Ted's auction and donate a few bucks to a different charity. A good charity auction both raises money for the specific auction and reminds participants to be more charitable generally. |
