Forsale 1909 Obak Ehman Uncataloged in Lipsets book??
Posted By: Jim Manos
The card is ex condition. It is the handcut borderless back. has a nick of paper loss in the cloud(back is perfect). Don't know the true scarcity, just know that it is 1st yr in the Krause and it was uncataloged in Lipsets book which has to mean something??? I Was told that it is on many want lists. I'm not an expert in the minor league issue or the 1909 Obak variation of handcut borderless but I have the card and it is not a easy one. I am going to take offer's due to my lack of experience in this arena. Hope this helps some one fill a want on ther list. Please feel free to e-mail me for a scan. |

Forsale 1909 Obak Ehman Uncataloged in Lipsets book??

Jim- Not really rare within the set (the whole darn set is pretty tough). The card was inadvertently left off a list a long time ago and then since people got lazy and just started making their lists from existing lists instead of doing a little research, it continued to be left off. 2 others come to mind- there was a 1910 Obak listed (guy's last name began with a "B") in almost all Obak lists years ago that did not exist and gave complete set collectors fits trying to find it; and there is a P-2 Sweet Caporal pin of Mullins small letter and a Mullins large letters but there is no such animal as Mullins large letters black hat. It doesn't exist and yet the lists including SCD continue to perpetuate this myth and even Mastro believes SCD instead of all the P-2 collectors who KNOW it doesn't exist. Don't believe me? Ask Scott Mosley, he'll give you the rundown... |

Forsale 1909 Obak Ehman Uncataloged in Lipsets book??

same as with the Schaefer/O'Leary two player card checklisted by everyone in the 1907 Dietsche Tigers postcard set. I've seen the set in two MAJOR auctions and both said "missing only the Schaefer & O'Leary two player card". The card simply DOES NOT EXIST. As for the Obak I think Mark Macrae has always had it listed in his checklists. I had one several years ago and I think I sold it to Frank (or was it you?). |

Not sure where it came from Steve but I know you have sold me several cards over the years at great prices. Maybe I have been lucky or maybe its indicative of the group, but every single Obak collector I have met over the years has been a terrific guy. |
