FS: 1915 Type 1 photo of Clark Griffith (HOF) at opening of Boston Braves Field
Clark Griffith (HOF), Washington Senators manager, original Type 1 photo, size 6.5" x 8.5". This historic photo, taken on August 18, 1915, prior to the opening game at the brand new Boston Braves Field, shows (left to right) Griffith, somebody named Davis, National League president John K. Tener, and Boston Braves owner James E. Gaffney. Following the "Miracle Braves" sweep of the Philadelphia Athletics in the 1914 World Series, Gaffney built a new baseball stadium for his baseball team. The photo has some minor flaws, but the images are strong. $65 delivered.
Note: This Type 1 photo was part of Lot #59127 in Heritage Auction's October 26, 1924, Sports Showcase Auction. This auction lot consisted of 12 Type 1 photos of Washington Senators. I won this lot to obtain the 2 Sam Rice photos that were in it, as I'm an avid Sam Rice collector. This photo has a small, round sticker (1" in diameter) on the back which reads "Christies" and "1996 Baseball Magazine Original."
