PSA grader probably thought the autograph was printed on the card. Should have been a MK at best, ungradeable at worst. Needs to be recalled to PSA to fix the flip info.

At least Goldin indicated the signature was a "secretarial" rather that authentic signature.

As far as the grading goes, it's just another grading mistake/error made by a TPG. Nobody's perfect right? Just because you shell out money to have cards graded doesn't mean you should expect the grading will be accurate every time.

Is it just me, or did whoever signed that spell his first name wrong?

It does look like it is spelled 'Joesph'. Back in the day, no special training was required to perform secretarial signing duties.

Brian
Probably were going to sign Joe then changed their mind a little late to try to make it Joseph.

Having collected Playballs the number 1 thing that turns collectors off about the 1939 Playball set is the fact that there is no name on the front. This could have been just a kid with good penmanship who wanted a name on front.
As for Grading not sure about now but wasn’t there a time when you could check a box and ask that no qualifiers be listed? Card looks nicer than most 3's.

I thought that only applied to oc, mc & st qualifiers
They would never eliminate the mk qualifier

The autograph looks so good in that spot. It looks like it actually belongs there lol. I really like it.

Saw this DiMaggio card a few days ago and I agree that it looks so natural in that spot that I had to make sure this card did not have a version with a facsimile autograph.

I also thought that the MK qualifier was unavoidable or that you could not avoid it by asking for no qualifiers.

Also saw this Diamond Stars Carl Hubbell card being offered on Fanatics Collect which should have the MK qualifier but does not.

Yep, the Hubbell should be a 4(MK) because you can't have a half grade with a qualifier.

The certification number provided, #101846931, was intentionally DEACTIVATED in the database.
Looks like PSA is going to recall the DiMaggio.
