A couple of things for my low end Giants collection. The hat was nothing the Giants sold but something a lady fan put together in the early 60's. The pin on the back has been attributed to the 1962 World Series. The poster is huge. 25x38. I had planned on resizing the frame to fit exactly but decided "screw it; I only wanted to preserve it and have no wall space anyway."

Thanks, guys. Funny (possibly boring) story on the frame….I had planned on the ultimate el cheapo poster frame. On those, the little clip on edges are plastic. Cut the cheapo “plexi,” cut the back cardboard, snip the clip on edges and, voila, you have your new size. Michaels was out of those frames, even tho they said they had 3 in stock. I used a 40% off coupon and got this much nicer frame for the same money ($25). I was gonna cut the corners with a metal saw and reattach them with some flat L shaped things I found lying around (drilling required; no big deal). Then, I realized the plexi is glued to the frame and the back is actually masonite, not cardboard. In the end, I coulda done it but decided to leave as is. Maybe someday; maybe not.

Rob,
That fan hat is cool but I love this pin/button! I've never seen one before. Is this something the Giants released, or a fan made as well? |

I like that one, too. Kinda of rare but not exceptionally so. There is a similar Twins example in Paul Muchinsky’s book with a 1965 WS ribbon attached.

That's a great looking Oaks piece, Chris.
Here is my most recent pickup. Giants snow globe. Oooribay says this is only the second one he has ever seen, and I think he said he saw a Dodgers version for sale in a 1969 catalog maybe? Last edited by bocca001; 03-04-2025 at 05:53 PM. |

I love the snow globe! It's perfect for Candlestick Park, where it never snowed, but famously felt like it.

No, unless you include former Negro League stars Artie Wilson and Ray Noble, who both played for the New York Giants that year. But there's some great old players featured, including HOFer Billy Herman, Augie Galan, Cookie Lavagetto, Chuck Dressen (manager) and HOFer George "Highpockets" Kelly (coach).

This one survived in part because someone laminated it. I suspect if it wasn't laminated, I would have had a tougher time winning it when I found it on eBay a few weeks ago.

Couple of items.
1954 Roy Campanella All-Stars Barnstorming Tour Program Second item is from a different area of collecting for me. I love children's illustrations and have gravitated to legendary illustrator Garth Williams. According to Williams' daughter, Williams made some extra illustrations for the book Charlotte's Web. This was one of the illustrations that did not end up in the book, so even as I am sure that many people have read the book, I imagine almost no one has ever seen this drawing. |

Rob, Dean & Ricky...thanks much. I really enjoy sharing these with you all.
Not bread calendars, but here's a cousin that is a prize for a Seattle collector like myself. So much content on this one! Also, a few Vancouver Capilanos wartime schedule calendars. The Western International League was a "baby brother" to the PCL. |

All great items and the calendars are great!
I picked up a nice set of the 1956 Dodgers picture pack from their 1955 WS team. The Koufax is pretty tough to find in good condition. I'm being drawn more towards the picture packs lately. |

New this month...1983 Kelloggs Super Corn Pops with the card ad on the back.
Brings me back to my childhood with my arm down in the box looking for the card before my brother found out there was a new box in the house.

Just Purchased this amazing gag photo of the 1913 reds with Joe Tinker, Dick Egan and Dick Hoblitzell from Hobbys estate. The clarity is fantastic! Reds trainer Doc Semmons would die less than 2 months later from Heatstroke!

Managed to pick up 11 vintage B/W photos from the estate of Marie Timm this month. These date to when she was a chaperone for the Rockford Peaches...1943-45. Shown below is a great 8.5X11 of her in her uniform and also a very nice photo with Bill Allington/Marie Timm taken on August 8, 1944.

Picked up a baseball for my Integration collection that I think is enormously significant.
In 1947, in order to minimize the issues of racism and discrimination, the Dodgers held Spring Training in Havana, Cuba. The Major League team went to Cuba along with the AAA Montreal Royals who Jackie Robinson was a member of. Accompanying him was Roy Campanella, who had been promoted to the Montreal Royals and would spend the 1947 season there. This ball was signed by the 1947 Montreal Royals team. It is signed by both Robinson and Campanella, and is a rare example of a place where they signed on the same panel (right near each other). I don't know of any items (other than a photo from the Cuban trip) which are from a date so close to April 15, 1947 when Jackie broke the Major League color barrier. |
