Default Who are some good vintage guys/collectors to follow?

I'm now on Instagram and YouTube (et_cardcollectr on both), and I'm looking to find some good vintage guys/collectors to follow. I'm not much into the modern stuff, but I love the vintage game and collecting that stuff. So I'm wanting to follow/find some vintage.

I've got a few I already follow on YouTube (guys like baseballcollector, midlifesportscards, mangini and some of their friends). But I"m not as well versed on Instagram. So can someone help.

I've recorded my first YT video, and I'm currently working on editing it (that's the toughest part). But I hope to have it up in the next couple of days. When I do, I'll edit this post with a link to it.

Wish I could help.

Total social media accounts = 0

I'm guessing that there are others who are in the same boat.

But probably plenty of others who are into social media.

Tony Schaefer of Monster Cards is a great vintage dealer.

I know he is on FB and I think on Instagram (I am not).

He does a monthly email / newsletter.

Great guy too. He is a member here but doesn't post often.

What do you mean by "follow"? Do you mean who's interesting to watch?

Hopefully you have your own collecting preferences and you aren't looking for anybody else's buying tips.

Yes, interesting to watch, knowledgeable, gives good insight into the hobby, stuff like that. I like to see new pickups, show footage, I like to hear people's thoughts on the hobby. So just looking for guys to follow when it comes to that aspect of vintage. There's tons of modern guys that I post that kind of stuff. But I've gotten to where I have no interest in modern. So wanting to start watching, following, interacting, etc, with vintage guys.

I'm on Instagram as:

red_lantern_nostalgia

Came very close to trying the YouTube thing after getting back from the National this summer, but in the end just couldn't pull the trigger. (Selfishly) my hobby is really just about me and escaping from reality, and while I like talking about cards literally to death and could probably do it - I didn't want to feel beholden to anything besides just whatever I want to do on a daily basis with my own collection. So many YouTubers will tell you later that it really becomes two hobbies - the cards, and then the channel...

I digress big time. If you want to follow some good vintage YT'ers, I would recommend:

Junk Wax Hero (Mike)
BRoth6 (Brian)
BOWMAN53 (Alex)
Bluejacket66 (Dave - no longer really making active content I don't think, but has a treasure trove of old videos)
John P Collects Cards (John)
The Mangini Collection (John)
SammyThunder (Sammy)

There are of course many more, but that will give you a good start.

There have been a great group of guys mentioned in this thread and I think i had the privilege of meeting everyone of them at the National this past year.

My suggestion is subscribe to Bowman53 (Alex) and either watch live or the recorded version of his Card Room Live. He is on mostly every Sunday night from 8-9pm EST and talks vintage cards with others as guests.

I have had the privilege on being on with him a few times and love it every chance I get. The wealth of knowledge as well as community is great and it will give you a chance to find other channels to watch from time to time.

Not a push but I started my YouTube channel almost 3 years ago (The Drew A Vintage Legacy) and it has absolutely transformed my collecting life since then just getting to know others with similar collections and likes and being able to connect in a different way.

Definitely start with Alex, who generously made my channels intro video, and expand from there,

Drew

Thanks for this information. I just started a channel, and I just posted my first video. It's a lot shorter than I thought it would be. And it's very awful to try and watch. But it's my first video, and it's done.

That’s great. What is your channel name? I couldn’t find it. I’d love to check it out and welcome you into the YouTube card community.

Much depends on what type of content you like. Many good YT accounts have been mentioned. I invite you to check out my videos at:

Vintage Baseball Corner

It's a lot of PSA Reveals right now, but other stuff too. I like to share details, stats and stories and not just flip through cards. I did a video on my time spent with Willie Mays, have opened some packs and featured other Vintage cards. I'm still relatively new, some it's still a little rough around the edges, but improving.

Another channel I like is:

I love baseball cards

Phil opens a lot of cards, but has a really nice collection as well. He has great passion for cards and it shows.

I'm not there yet, but my tech team (aka my daughter) is trying to figure out how to turn my substack column into some sort of video/audio content.

When I first got into vintage, I found the best resource to be Mike’s “Golden Age of Cardboard” podcast. He also has a YouTube channel “Baseball Collector”.

Yes, I've been listening to him for awhile. I really like him. In fact, I'm hoping to meet him and Chris from Missouri today in Dallas. I'm headed that way in a couple of hours.

Mike is a great guy for the community. He has been a long time member here on Net54 as well.

I was honored about a year ago to be on his podcast The Golden Age Of Cardboard as a guest. We covered How To Enjoy Collecting Without Adding Anything To It.

If anyone has an interest in hearing it my YouTube channel name is The Drew A Vintage Legacy.

Hope you got to meet both Mike and Chris (from Missouri). Chris is as genuine as he seems on his videos. I highly recommend amyon3 to check both of their channels out.

Drew
