Default Sad News we lost another good guy collector Marty Ohman

Hi All

I had off and on through the years enjoyed communicating with fellow Net54 member Marty Ohman known here as Laughlinfan.

I had sent him an email a few months back and had not received a reply. Then recently the below email arrived from his wife/widow Kris. As you will read she asked me to notify the group of his passing along with a link to his obituary.

Such a great guy!

Fred

My name is Kris and I am Marty's wife. I am so very sorry to tell you that Marty died suddenly and unexpectedly on December 30th of 2023. We are just now closing in on the one year anniversary. Our children and I (and all of our family and friends) were shocked and devastated. He was 59, in good health as far as we knew, had just had his yearly physical, and collapsed at the end of a run. The cause of death was determined to be a severe heart attack.

I have continued to monitor his emails on the off chance that a collecting acquaintance would reach out. He was an avid and very knowledgeable sports memorabilia collector as you must already know. He loved the hobby and enjoyed sharing information with others and truly loved hearing about other people's quests and collecting interests.

I don't know what other forums he may have been posting on or if there are others he would occasionally correspond with, but if you do, you have my permission to share this news. I would be interested to know more about how you connected with Marty and how long you have corresponded with him. We miss him terribly and love to hear stories about the friendships he cultivated in his short life.

Thank you and take care,
Kris

And you say Marty was only 59 and in really good health? That's sad, very sad.

This is terrible.

Marty and I communicated endlessly about the 1967 Laughlin World Series set when I first started collecting those great cards a couple of years back, with occasional conversations in the time since. He was simply a fantastic fellow devotee as we shared theories and insights. What an extremely welcoming and an out and out great guy!!

God, you never know what tomorrow brings. May he rest in peace.

Gosh, what a loss, mostly to his family and friends, but also to the hobby he loved. I know we're not meant to, but I'll never understand why things work the way they do in this life, assuming there's any rhyme or reason to it in the first place, which could be my first mistake. These things make my heart hurt. Carpe Diem.
