I bought a hat supposedly signed and inscribed by Bill Belichick. Just for the hell of it, I did a PSA/DNA quick opinion on it. The results were "Not likely genuine". I'm not an autograph expert by any means. The opinion made me change my mind about buying it. I asked for a refund and sent a copy of the PSA/DNA email. He refunded me right away, so he did what he was supposed to do.
This morning I was browsing Ebay and saw that he had relisted it knowing the PSA/DNA opinion. I reported it to Ebay and told them about the opinion. This is the email I received: Thanks again for reporting the listing(s) you found. What happened: We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent.. If you reported content that isn’t listed below, we’ll send a separate email once we’ve made a decision. Interesting issue . . . .
Many people post on the board often that the "opinion sellers" don't know what they are doing and how often they are wrong. There was a post recently about people complaining that autographs they got in person of HOFs came back unverified. Why should a seller have to take the word of PSA that something is "not likely genuine"? Not trying to pick a fight, and I am glad you got your refund. I was under the impression that if an item was deemed "Not Likely" by PSA that you couldn't list it. If that's the case, they should have removed the listing. I could be wrong about that though. Last edited by edtiques; 09-13-2024 at 09:36 AM. |

Years ago, I used PSA’s Quick Opinion service, where the item came back “likely not genuine.” Bought it, submitted it to PSA, came back authentic.

The quick opinion from authenticators is just a simple way to make $10 to $20 bucks without doing anything except looking at your item. Easy money.
