Default Does crossing over from a collection carry the collection tag?

When I get a slabbed card which is not PSA (which is what I collect), I typically just crack it and send it because it seems that crossing it over costs more and limits how high the grade could be. The exception is when the grade is pretty good to be able to protect myself from a large undergrade from PSA.

I am on the fence with a couple of cards from the “Richard Merkin” collection. I believe he has cards tagged as such in several of the grading companies. If cross over to PSA will it still keep the “Richard Merkin” on the PSA slab? More curious than anything else.

If you crack it out, how are you going to prove provenance without the original companies flip or pictures of the card in the flip?

They will know the previous grade of the card through their research.

Just have them cross it over

I know the Merkin collection was huge and awesome, but I am not sure too much exrtra value is placed on it. I guess I would rather have it on there but if I was crossing something over, I am not sure I would worry about it too much. As far as the TPG putting it on the label, I dunno...

Not sure about the original question, but when else will I get a chance to post my Richard Merkin card? I think it is part of set of artists cards (this is the only one I have) but it could also have been a custom-made card (I got it from Richard who I met once through Barry Sloate). I think Richard was equally well-known in the collecting world and in the art world, although I don't think either world knew much about his "other" side.

Among the fun facts found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Merkin is that Richard was on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Very unlikely it would keep the provenance. I remember that many of the Black Swamp Find cards even lost their designation when being put in different company holders, right?
