Default WaJo in the News!

a tidbit about Mile Lorenzen's No-Hitter last night:

Lorenzen is the fourth pitcher out of Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, Calif., to reach the Majors; all four have thrown a no-hitter (as noted by X user @StrangedeBill1). Hall of Famer Walter Johnson pitched a no-hitter for the Washington Senators against the Red Sox in 1920, Steve Busby of the Royals no-hit the Brewers in '74 and Mike Warren of the A’s no-hit the White Sox in '83.

C-O-O-L!!!

I don't know how many thousands of baseball statistical quirks I've read over the years, but this may be the most remarkable one of the entire bunch.

The original Fullerton Union H.S., which Walter Johnson attended, burned down around 1910 or so. At some point, perhaps when they rebuilt it, it became simply Fullerton H.S., named for the town in which it was located. A bunch of major leaguers went there, including HOFer Arky Vaughn, also President Richard Nixon.

Here is a Mike Warren no hitter display, along with a couple of others that were thrown for, or against, the Athletics. It should be noted that he was a rookie that year!

Here's an interesting stat, along the same line.

Two Yankees have thrown a perfect game (a bit more rare than a no-hitter ). Both of those pitchers attended the same high school - Point Loma High School in San Diego.

That is one heck of a high school alumni list.
