Recently I learned that one person might have up to 200 of the Jackie Leaf cards? Is there any truth to this?

I remember seeing a guy hoarding them. Once he learns they're a 1949 release and that Jackie's '49 Bowman is as much a rookie as his '49 leaf I don't know how much longer he'll keep hoarding them.

Found it,
His name is Jason Koonce. Apparently he's a known card trimmer. And owns some obscure grading company called ISA. Notice none of the Jackies are in one of those holders. 😂 ![]()

I really don't see the point of hoarding any one card, especially if it is a costly one. The variety you could have with the same money spent is crazy to imagine.
The guy who had all the 52 Topps Tony B or the 64 Topps Flood cards comes to mind as well, even if the cards are not top $, it can add up. I think the 52 Topps was a high number, so not cheap. Of course, I have also seem guys claim they have 5K boxes full of 80s/90s star cards. I'll admit I have a few hundred of several Garvey cards when I got caught up in buying 50 and 100 card lots many years back, but even a 79 Topps isn't going to set you back much to do that.

Especially when there are a lot of them out there. If there were a half dozen or something, and no one else cared so you could get them for nothing, then maybe…

If you like collecting multiple of a card, why shouldn’t you collect that card?

I’m no psychologist, but it does seem like there’s something unique about going exceptionally deep. If you’ve got 1-5 v 20-50 v 100-200 v 5000+. At some point it sort of gets a bit ludicrous. Particularly if there are large sums involved, and great effort to round them all up individually.

If I pump a card investors like and get 99 other people to buy 1 with me to juice the price, that is considered positive and great. If I buy 100 copies of it myself, it’s bad and we might need a psychologist. I don’t get a meaningful difference. |

Any authentic Leaf Robinson is worth something, but here is another way I would look at it. Say I have 20+ Robby cards. The one that is 3rd row from bottom, left most card comes up for sale. I can't see myself buying such a beater card if I already have 1 let alone 20+, unless it is absolutely a steal, like nearly free and I can flipit for a profit and buy another nicer copy! Remember I have 20+ others that are much nicer, so it feels like throwing away money to me.
Guessing that card would sell for more than I would pay if I had no copies, but I do have my 1 copy and that is enough for me, so buying one like that is highly unlikely. I agree with do what makes you happy though, even if I can't see the logic in it. If someone can afford to spend $1000s on doubles, triples or even 40th copies of cards, good for them. I can't justify it. I still say there are endless other cool cards you could spend that same money on elsewhere.

In one of my facebook groups, that I belong to, there's a gentleman that hoards all different types of cards. He has multiple 1952 Bowman, 1953 Topps, 1954 Bowman, Mantles. I'm in no position to tell anyone how to collect, or what to collect, but it makes little sense to me. But If people enjoy doing that, then so be it.

Probably both for fun and partly for investment .
.. does anyone need a 91 Fleer Ultra Plantier or 90 Leaf Steve Avery ? |

If the guy with 200 Jackie Leaf cards bought them all 3+ years ago, he is likely loving life seeing that it continues to be a card on the move.

I agree...if he had these pre-pandemic he made some great investments, even with things cooling off a bit. I'd be stoked to have all those! That picture is insane, and a lot of dollars...

Exactly! It is no different than putting away a run of different cards at a specific time and price point.

The nice thing about this hobby is there are so many ways to collect to scratch ones particular itch. As a collector, not an investor/flipper I would find hoarding 200 examples of any card boring but if that's your thing more power to you. Last edited by Casey2296; 07-11-2023 at 08:22 PM. |

If you follow Jason on IG you'll see that he isn't just hoarding the Leaf Jackie. He seems to have that many or more copies of lots of major cards. He's been buying them up for years.

Another one to talk about is the guy who has 49 of the 1948 Swell Sport Thrills Robinson. That's a pretty ridiculous amount for that card.

Is there a difference? They're people with a lot of money and cards. Some people call me a collector. Some people call me a hoarder. Who's to say. I don't care much for those labels.
