Default Old Judge Book - The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company
I have brand new copies of The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (1886-1890) by Jay Miller, Joe Gonsowski & Richard Masson available for sale.

If you have interest in the Old Judge issues or other vintage cards, then this is a must for your library. This beautiful hardbound book is certainly one of the finest every produced in our hobby.

Over 450 full color pages. Nearly all known N172 Old Judge cards are pictured. Includes biographical information about each player (sample pages shown). Also has tons of info on other Old Judge issues (N167, N173, N175 etc.), how they were produced, the rarities within the set, advertising, uncut sheets, etc.

$30 delivered in the US via USPS Media Mail
$45 delivered in the US via USPS Priority Mail

Same. I think I paid $50-$60 for my copy years ago, and worth every penny.

If you're even mildly into 19th century baseball/Old Judge cards this book is a must have.

It's obviously a great reference. It's also a great read on it's own for both the cards and the players.

...and it's an interesting coffee table book that many visitors have thumbed through and found interesting, even people who have no idea about baseball cards (which is most people who find themselves in my living room).

My personal want-list for A/G is 15-16 cards and I'm 2/3rd the way there. Because of that, it's value as a reference for me is minimal, but I can't imagine getting rid of it because of it's all-around information value.

As I alluded to in my previous posts, this book is well worth it at twice the price, even if you don't collect 19th century cards. It might just make you want to pick up the Old Judge card collecting habit though.

Even if you are not interested in Old Judge cards, this book is still a great resource for biographical information of the players of the Old Judge era.

On the card front, it has always amazed me how many photo variations are available for many of the Old Judge players, and this book is a great visual reference for that as well.


Brian (of all the listings in BST, this thread is well deserving of a semi-annual bump from me)
