MLB to play at Rickwood Field in Birmingham
I'm beyond thrilled to see that a MLB regular season game will be played in my hometown at Rickwood Field in 2024. The game between the Giants and Cardinals will replace the Field of Dreams game while the Iowa park is under construction next year.
In case you are not familiar with Rickwood, it is a former minor league and Negro League stadium that was built in 1910. Over 100 hall of famers have played there! Wagner, Cobb, Ruth, Robinson, Aaron, Mays and on and on. Not to mention Shoeless Joe. Going to Rickwood is like stepping back in time. Glad to see that this often overlooked gem in Birmingham will get its turn on the national stage. Will also be a great opportunity for the league to recognize Alabama's own Willie Mays. Mays played for the Birmingham Black Barons at Rickwood when he was just 17.
