Default Jim Chapman’s Book is here and it’s a game changer!

Baseball Photography of the Deadball ERA book is now complete. I just got my copy of the 385 page hard bound book and it’s amazing. This will help educate collectors for all images used for publications including postcards, type 1s, Papers, etc….

Henry Yee along with many other knowledgeable collectors have contributed to this book to make this the new go to source for photography. I compare this game changer book to the Old Judge Book that Jay, Joe and Richard put out years ago which changed the landscape for collecting Old Judges. With that said the older book “A portrait of Baseball Photography” is still a must read book, and I’d rank this this new book a must own to have, if collecting pre war items.

Looks like Jim has spent a life time writing and collecting images for this book. I have a feeling he will be doing another print run soon on this as the word gets out.

Great job Jim and thank you for contributing to the hobby in such a dynamic way!

Looking forward to it. Looks like the trade edition is available in July, according to their website.

Mine just arrived and I am trying feverishly to finish up stuff so I can crack it open.

I have been collecting cards and memorabilia for over 40 years and in the last few years, photos have become more interesting to me than cards. I wonder if that has happened to other long time collectors?

To me a card of, say, Christy Mathewson is cool - but the right photo of him is cooler; probably because the card images I am so used to seeing but the photo could be unique or rarely seen. I'm seeing the player in a new light versus the usual card images.

Anyway, good review JC! I know I am going to enjoy finally understanding what's behind collecting bb photos.

One of the greatest hobby books ever produced in my opinion.

The incredible photos alone are more than worth the price of admission.

Thanks for the kind words. The Limited Signed Edition will be available in early June and the Trade Edition in early July. I will be at the National with copies of each. A more formal announcement will be made in the next couple of weeks when the site is ready to receive pre-orders. Those kind enough to contribute to the book have, or shall soon, have their Advance Review Copies. For everyone else, I appreciate your patience and hope the wait will be worth your while! In the meantime, I'll at least crack open the covers for you.

I agree with all of the other early reviews. It is definitely one of the great hobby books. It has the quality of a top notch coffee-table type book and should be a staple in any vintage baseball memorabilia collector's library.

Default Jim Chapman’s Book is here and it’s a game changer!

Proud to be counted among the lead contributors on Jim’s project. Finished product is something we can all be proud of and will no-doubt serve as an invaluable resource to the hobby. Much of the information shared has been accumulated by several prominent collectors over the course of decades and compiled here in a single volume. If you’ve got even a passing interest in Deadball Era photography this is a must-have.

I texted this to Jim earlier today, but it bears repeating: in terms of content and research, it ranks up there with Dan Busby's book on Dodgers memorabilia and Jay/Richard/Joe's Old Judge book - certainly one of the most important resources created for the hobby, and one that'll be on my shelf for a long time.

I am humbled by the generous reviews. I hope everyone has as much fun reading the book as I did writing it. There are quite a few revelations contained therein which I won’t spoil here.
