The cheapest bleacher tickets for Game 4 in Philly were $1,734 each (after fees).
And we all know how that turned out haha
But thats incredibly pricey.

Wait, what? The midterms are supposed to be turning on a bad economy? And did somebody say something about baseball dying?

So none of them are on the team anymore.

Harper matured.

Scherzer and Zimmerman aged out.

Let’s go Phillies!

Hank, thanks for this piece of interesting info. As you know, I've rooted for Washington's teams ever since Dad took me to old Griffith Stadium back in the 1950's. But, I could never bring myself to root for Harper, except when the Nationals desperately needed a hit from him to win a game. And, I shed no tears when he left DC the year before we won the WS.

Brian L., thanks for informing that Harper has matured, now that he is older and become a family man. Does he now put in a bit of effort to run out the easy ground balls he hits to infielders?

Default Hustle

I’ve watched the Phillies almost every night for as many years as the MLB AT BAT app has been around.

To answer the question, yes Bryce Harper does run hard on ground balls, better than most MLB players. Most players don’t, even the popular ones like Trout or Betts. ( I’ve heard it said that most MLB players consider it a fools errand to run out a bouncer to 2B at full speed to risk injury when 99.5% they’ll be out anyway)

I don’t think that’s the truest evaluation of hustle. You see it running for extra bases, backing up plays in the OF as much as possible. And yes, running out grounders for the most part.

As a Phillies fan, I didn’t like him on the Nats. But that’s because I don’t like anyone in the same division as my beloved Phil’s. So the only thing I wanted to see Harper do when he joined the Phillies was that he played hard and showed that he wanted to win. He won me over because he truly plays hard every game. He’s been a leader on and off the field. Whatever reputed problems he had as a young player appear to be in his past.

I agree with Brian. Harper has been everything the Phillies could have hoped for when they signed him. I never understand why some players receive criticisms for not running hard on every play since almost every player does the same thing. There's almost no player that runs hard on every routine ground out to second or the pitcher, but for some reason, certain players seem expected to do it while most others get a pass. From what I have seen of Harper since he's been in Philly, his effort and desire to win are up there with anyone in the league.

Through a series of fortunate events that began with the Monday rainout, I found myself at Wednesday night’s game entertaining a customer. Luckily for me, I got to bring my oldest. I was at game 2 of the 1990 WS at Riverfront (and danced in the fountain after the Reds beat Eck in the 9th). He had never been to one. So we made the 5 hour trek on the turnpike from Pittsburgh to Philly and got to watch the second World Series no hitter (albeit, combined with 4 pitchers and not nearly the luster).

In the past, I would have taken my ticket stub and framed some type of memorabilia - an autographed picture of Javier pitching, the last out, the attached picture with me and the boy, etc. however, since everything is now electronic, printing them out and trying to frame them just doesn’t have the same impact. Does anyone know how to get them exchanged for regular tickets?

Thanks!

As someone who doesn't have a fighting interest, it's been a very entertaining interesting series.

Best choice the Nats made in letting that cyst pop and leave.

Anyone else notice a remarkable similarity to Game 6 of the 2020 WS when Cash pulled Snell after 5 1/3 and Nick Anderson promptly blew the game?

I know in both cases they were looking at matchups, but IMO Wheeler was rolling....the intentional HBP by Maldonado and the weak single up the middle by Peña was all he gave up.

Hi Mathew

When Wheeler was yanked in the 6th inning last nite, I told my wife (an avid Phillies fan) the World Series is over the Astros will win it.

History will be repeated....earlier in the Post Season, Wheeler was yanked in the 6th inning while pitching a 2-hit game and the Phillies
went on to looze that game, too.

Hi Ted - I had the same thought. Seemed like overmanaging in that moment.

A friend of mine texted me when it happened and said "Blake Snell part 2" so you aren't the only one who thought that. Unfortunately, it's the way the game is managed these days, especially in the playoffs. Third time through the lineup, as soon as the starter gets into any trouble, time to bring in the bullpen with what is hoped to be a favorable match-up.

Did Pete Rose ever make it to the hall? NO. Did any of the Black Soxs make it to the hall? NO. I can go on. Astroes cheated, and I'll never forgive them outta of respect for the others who cheated. They knew what they were doing was a big thing to MLB. Pay the price.

October 8th, 1956....I was a young kid then (played hooky) and saw this entire World Series game 5 on our small Admiral TV. Don Larsen was amazing.

And, so was Mickey Mantle that day.

Furthermore, you have to credit Casey Stengel for having the confidence in Larsen. Unlike these Manager's in Baseball nowadays.
