Default T206 Hickman - on fire

Thoughts on how this happened? Cracked it out of PSA slab, the discolored portion doesn't feel any different than the rest of the surface, and no change after soaking.

It was glued at one time to an album. The glue discolored it.

As a collector of every lovely odd flaw, this card stopped me in my tracks. I would have bought that in a NYC second.

Great piece.

There was a group of cards just like the Hickman that sold several years ago. It was caused by reaction to the glue and possibly a chemical used to try and remove the glue. I think there is a thread on here about them but I couldn't find it.

There was a different group that was sold together that Jeff's Dahlen came from

here's the thread on some of the cards that were in that group

Seems to me that if glue caused the green ink to diminish, then Hickman's jersey collar would show a similar discoloration. I don't think a glue did that.

Dahlen's collar does have discoloration.

Neat card!

Hickman's collar and hair were effected by it Frank, it's just that the effect on the Blue blue stands out more on Dahlen. You can see the Black on the left tip of Hickman's collar.

I have seen a lot of these and I'm confident it was caused by the glue and sun or chemical exposure.
