Default PSA to SGC Crossover Surprise...

I've had a 1954 Bowman Mickey Mantle for a while now that was PSA slabbed when I got it, and was in my binder after I popped it. Recently I have decided to have some fun and slab some of my 50's HOFer's with SGC, I just love the way they look in their "tuxedo". I don't care about the grades, and most are actually grading higher than expected. Off went the 54 Mick...

Today I got the latest scores...the 54 Mick was a PSA 2(MC). Not sure why it graded a 2...there are no creases, a tiny wrinkle to the left of his hat...overall a pretty clean card...corners are a bit soft and it is definitely MC, but a 2? I originally purchased as the price was right and what I like, no creases. Anyway...SGC gave it an "A"...I really had no idea how they would treat the MC, but that wasn't the explanation...the notes say "Evidence of Trimming". Trimming? I actually measured it out before I sent it in and had it side by side with other 54 Bowmans and it seemed the right size and I'm pretty sensitive to trimming (thus the measuring). PSA obviously didn't think it was trimmed. Again, not a big deal at all...I originally purchased this for like $125 back in the day, and regardless of grade it's worth a heck of a lot more than that...not for sale anyhow...but wow, pretty contrasting ideas of condition! Thought I would share...

Here is the PSA pic I finally found...not great but proves the grade -

Here is the new scan in an SGC slab...looks good! Add another "A" to the collection...lol

It looks amazing in the new SGC slab. Really like the miscut making it look like a 54 Topps without the top border.

Thanks guys...I really do think it looks amazing in the black SGC slab and I'm not really a graded guy...guy. Never thought the of the homage to the 54 Topps...good call out!

I'm going to chose to ignore the "trimming" comment as it only said "evidence" as I ditch trimmed cards, and this one is a keeper and fits the condition of my set...

I also feel the 53 and 54 Bowman Mantles are under rated, if you can say that about a Mickey card. Clean great photos of Mick in his youth.

I had a similar experience once when attempting a crossover. I bought a 53T Satchel Paige in an SGC 4. I cracked it out (with some other key vintage cards), to send them to PSA. PSA sent it back with "evidence of trimming". Ok, so I sent it back to SGC (with the old SGC flip in the package). They slabbed it as Auth, with "Evidence of trimming"

Lesson learned, there's a risk in cracking any card, because 3rd party graders are very capable of making mistakes.
