Tobacco Cricket cards etc., what do I have here

[HOF Auto Rookies]

I got these in Bath, England probably 22 years ago when I was 12-13 in an antique shop. Went through my parents stuff and finally found them after all these years. Did some minor searching and just wondering 1) what exactly these are and 2) if they are desirable at all. It seems they are pretty common? And not really anything special other than a sweet memory from my trip with my family!

Not sure what post you moved these, but the album is kind of rare for English tobacco stuff - in general english tobacco cards are not worth too much do to mass production like Topps 80s cards. I sell this kind of stuff all the time at flea markets and do very well, at shows not so much. Good luck!

The Murray's guide, which is around 15 years old, shows the following:

1934 Players Cricket set of 50 is $87

1928 Wills Cricket set of 50 is $113

Murray's doesn't show the British Automatic cards, but COMC has several in the $3 range.

I agree with Jimmy about the album. It looks like it is decent condition. If I had the info from the back of the cards that are in the album I may be able to find some info.

I don't think they were mass produced so much, just the Brits were really good at saving/collecting their cards back then.

Cards were for kids in the U.S., so they were treated as such.

In Great Britain they were collected by adults, just as they collected stamps and coins...and then cared for as such.

On the cricket side, Donald Bradman cards can be pretty popular. He's basically the Babe Ruth of the Cricket world. Not sure anybody else would be considered more then a common, no matter how good they might have been.

These are fantastic and a great story. In addition to baseball/basketball,
Football, I also collect English football cards from the 50’s/60’s/70’s. The A&BC cards in the 60’s and 70’s even used prior years’ Topps designs. I too have found the English tobacco (and confection) cards are cheaper and easier to find in good condition. Equally as addictive as their American counter-parts!
