Walter Johnson Boosters Club Card 1929--From his estate, one of two known!
$950, shipping included. A cool piece for Big Train fans and collectors. Here is one of two known "Walter Johnson Boosters Club" membership cards dated 1929, and presumably in conjunction with Johnson's ascension that year as the new manager of the Washington Nationals. Both known examples of this card came from Johnson's own scrapbooks, and both were issued to family members, in this case his wife, Hazel. Since these are the only two copies of this card I've ever seen in scouring the universe for WaJo items over the last 40 years or so, it's a good guess that these are prototypes and the booster club effort never went into production. The card pictures what appears to be a Boosters Club pin made by Bastian Brothers of N.Y., and since I've never seen one of those, either, I'm assuming those also never went into production. The card is signed by Fred Perlzman, a D.C. businessman and baseball booster whose name appears on just about every Nationals banquet and testimonial program of the era. Good condition with scrapbook residue and removal damage to the back. 4" x 2&1/2" Comes with a letter of provenance from Henry W. Thomas, Johnson's grandson and biographer. Payment by check or PayPal F&F.
