From this article:
https://sports.yahoo.com/chaos-in-co...191058703.html In May 2020, the president and CEO of Collectors Universe (PSA's parent company), Joe Orlando, revealed to shareholders that the card backlog was more than one million cards. It grew since, prompting the shutdown. Does anyone have firm data on what the PSA backlog is right now? I have seen numbers thrown around (5 million, 10 million) but no hard evidence. |

I'm predicting the cards in our "Swingin' 60's" bulk sub with have their 75th birthday sitting in the dusty PSA Xanadu warehouse ala Citizen Kane.

I would guess that the Pokemon grading craze accounts for a lot of these cards in the backlog. After a bunch of different Pokemon cards each sold for well over $100,000 it sent a lot of people to the PSA site making submissions. It wasn't just the Charizard cards, but lots of Pokemon are selling for some big bucks lately. Even some mass-produced commons from early sets were going for $100 on Ebay, so I think people are speculating on making some money after grading.
Some 1970's basketball seem to have escalated in price recently, as well. Cards that weren't worth the trouble 2 years ago now are worth getting graded. |

Our one group sub was called "The Golden Era" or something like that. It has literally been a year for that sub.

Cards that were Modern when submitted will be vintage by the time they're returned.

PSA was reportedly behind by several months and backlogged by approximately 10 million cards that were submitted by collectors when it suspended its Value, Economy, Regular and Express services on April 1

What’s going to stop the backlog from starting all over again once psa lets the dam break again? I can see them at least putting a limit on submissions per month or so.

I *believe* they're trying to avoid a huge surge of ultra-modern cards. Don't be surprised if they have a separate tier for 2017-present or some similar date range.

So, if you use the #'s from the SCD article, which are 10,000,000 cards backlogged and they are grading 20,000 cards per day, and you do the math, that is 500 days until they catch up. There are 250 or so business days per year, so that is 2 years - not counting any new submissions that come in during that time period.

When this is finally over - I'm pretty sure that you wont be able to get me to walk across the street to "piss on PSA - even if they are on fire". There is ZERO excuse for this kind of customer service!

If they do open lower tiers, and cant imagine a world where "1 year turnaround " is acceptable

What does this tiered approach mean ??
Does anyone really think submissions under $50 a card will ever come back ??? It would not surprise me if PSA in 2022 does 4 quarterly specials maybe $35 a card with a year to 18 month turnaround time as realistic. Everything else maybe $100 and over per card ? Idk ?? |

A pricing model that says, more or less, don't waste our time with the $3 base card you pulled from 2021 Topps.

Could send the registry Into a tailspin. Who is grading 50s commons at even $20? This is why I'm assuming low tiers will come back at some point.

PSA is going to have to figure out how to keep people grading commons, inexpensive HOF and star cards for master sets, etc. The registry is one of the big reasons people go with PSA and why they will pay premium prices.
