I recently sent off notes to two members AFFER working out a deal here on the BST. One person sent over 5 cards, the second just completed a 14 card transaction. I’ll paraphrase what someone wrote here: “I am merely a caretaker of these cards...” I gather I am curating my now 4 and half year old’s future collection. I figure adding a little note on who possessed the cards previously would make them a tad more “real”.
The McGraw “finger in air” could be called the “Josh WazyWazoo” card in my collection. The Armbruster can be noted as acquired from the Justin of the Monster Podcast. Do you guys note the dates acquired? The “collection” you acquired your purchases from? One more thing; don’t want to start a separate thread - parting with cards. I have never traded a card, sold a card. There are a few doubles in the collection. Two cards that I’m not “in love with”. But parting with them doesn’t cross my mind. Does anyone else here have that issue? |

Man do I love my provenance! A Titus would only be appropriate as well...

I’ve never sold a card and I haven’t traded one since 7th grade. I never really through about that before. I guess I WOULD trade something in the right deal but every card I have means something to me. |

I have bought/sold/traded a boat full of cards over the last 30+ years. I prefer to trade when possible. Provenance is what makes my favorite baseball bat my favorite. Famous drag racer Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen was also a big Wade Boggs fan. I purchased a semi rare Wade Boggs bat from his estate when he passed about 3 years ago. |

I wouldn't be sitting here now with a complete, 160/160 Bowman color set if not for a BIG trade I made to get me started on collecting it. I only gave up duplicates of what I still have to do it.

I keep track of where, when and how much I paid for something. But provenance/history that comes with the card is best.

There was a time that I didn’t part with any of my cards. My wife changed my ideas on it. Said I was a hoarder not a collector. I couldn’t tell you what I had or where it was. Didn’t look at most of them ever. Just a handful.
I have since paid bills, paid for vacations, and paid for gifts with them. I’ve traded and sold to get other cards I wanted as well. It was quite freeing actually. I’m trading doubles to billed sets. There are a few regrets but not many. Miss my Jimmy Foxx card, my Hank Aaron rookie, my mantles. But in turn I really like my complete 53 color bowman set, 1959 Topps set, my Clemente run, and my hoard of 1909 Pirates cards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
