Default Police Gazette and the Clap
I was looking at the back of a large clipping of Highlander Russell Ford from the Police Gazette in 1912 and there is an interesting ad for the Sporting News Cabinets (top of image)

Apparently in 1912 there was also a severe outbreak of VD (not Valentines Day)...and whatever "Gleet" is, I don't want it!

I believe gleet is an archaic term for syphyllis

oops I was wrong

a chronic inflammation (such as gonorrhea) of a bodily orifice usually accompanied by an abnormal discharge also : the discharge itself.

New York Dog Exchange is interesting. Dogs shipped anywhere in the world. I wonder how that worked out.
I realize today you can ship live animals, but 100 years ago? Sounds like a real crap shoot to me.

Walter Lingo did quite well providing Oorang Terriers to sports figures as well as other well known people, which helped him fund the Oorang Indians Football Team. Very interesting read.

The ad is for Sporting News not Sporting Life, so they were not offering W600's. It states them as 8" x 10" photogravure I am guessing M101-2's....

My dad bought a dog from across the country 60 years ago. They put it in a crate on a train, and someone gave the dog food and water along the way. But shipping a dog to Brazil?

Also out of place today: "we sell guaranteed fighting dogs."
