Default 1979-80 Gretzky RC - PSA 6 thoughts?

Hi,

I don't own many cards in my collection, but picked this Gretzky rookie the other day from a personal friend. He thought it might score higher such as a 7 through PSA if I resubmitted the card as he had it graded over 5 years ago and mentioned he has seen several other 6's with with more compromised corner imperfections in newer slabs, therefore I was wondering what the experts on this board think about that?

Does the final grade score 6 appear correct?

Is there risk to resubmitting a card being assigned a lower grade at all?

Thank you,

Taylor

Looks good to me. PSA doesnt penalize OPC on the jagged cut as its considered the "OPC Cut". Depending on who you are talking to they either cut by wire or used very dull blades leading to those edges.
Nice card!

The front looks great. I see some horizontal print lines or ridges on the back?

DOB: 1/26/61.... Wayne Gretzky is 60!

I'd leave it as is. I think that grade may be generous depending on what's happening with the back of the card.

I think it’s right on the border of maybe not qualifying for a 7 because of centering. You probably don’t want the dreaded O/C qualifier.

Actually, based on centering alone, it barely qualifies as a 6. PSA's standards are minimum 80/20 centering on the front for a 6; I measure it at maybe 82/18.

Centering standard for a 7 is 70/30, so it doesn't come close to that.

Looks like an 8 OC which = PSA 6. Still a great-looking card.

May get a 6.5, the centering as someone mentioned is why it will not go any higher - leave it - still a nice card!

Default If

You crack out and resubmit it is a complete roll of the dice - it COULD come back lower. If you submit for reconsideration - I doubt it changes - see comments in other posts above.

Curious what your thoughts on how this one would grade PSA? I just picked this one up from my friend too. PSA 5 or 6 candidate, or greater? The line on the back above the Y is just the case reflecting.

My friend had a whole bunch of vintage cards and rookies he was sitting on for a while. He just enjoyed owning and didn’t know much about value until we sat down and took the time to see how they have been selling which prompted him to sell some. We sent some to PSA late last week for the first time ever so a bit nervous but I was quite surprised when helping him look at them the overall conditions of them all. He had some really nice vintage rookies from way back in the day.
