I am extremely new to pre-war collecting and have spent most of my time browsing, doing a bit of purchasing here and there. In my eBay browsing I came across this listing:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-1911-T...sAAOSwe61fms6r It just seems off to me. I am wondering what more experienced people think about it. Something about the name/team seems too black. I am also not sure how normal it is to be able to read the factory from the back faintly on the front of the card under the name/team. It just doesn't seem like any other T206 I have seen before, and seems markedly different even from others the seller has listed. |

The "I need to sell now cuz PSA is backed up" is suspect. Anybody knows you could get those cards graded in two weeks. The T206 guys here can give you a better assessment on if they're genuine.

The cards look good, but the price isn’t. The Rudolph appears to have writing that was erased directly under the name.

I believe the card is genuine. I hope so, because I bought off of this same seller !! LOL.
I bought a lesser grade T206 Tolstoi off of this same seller about 2-3 weeks ago, for under $200. Card arrived quickly. The stock thickness, feel of the stock, and surface feel of his Tolstoi felt exactly like all my other genuine & ungraded T206. If you look at the photo of the Rudolph, his camera picks up all the very tiny pixels of the T206s. Go to other clear photos of other genuine Rudolphs, and you can see the same tiny pixels in the same places, especially on the cheek & shirt collar. https://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-Dick-R...UAAOSwYkdfUW9p Here is another good example where you can compare the tiny pixels on the collar, cheek, bottom right corner, etc. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1910-T206-D...UAAOSwImRYUZE6 The ink below the front name? That could be wet sheet transfer? My guess. I believe this Tolstoi is genuine, but I have trouble determining any fine alterations like slightly trimmed edges, pressed corners, etc. Last edited by troutbum97; 01-29-2021 at 11:14 PM. |

It's good what your seeing under the name is a transfer of the factory info from the back. The price is pretty high some of the
350 only subjects are extremely tough with a Tolstoi back but Rudolph isn't one of them. |

His cards are real. A couple look trimmed. Prices are nonstarters though

Not writing under the name. It’s a wet sheet transfer. You can make out the word FACTORY.

Card is legit. Top has a curve, but I dont think trimmed. The mystery of the grade is the carrot. Price is high but not crazy considering premiums of mid tier backs right now. Reality is it's a nice looking card and he'll sell it.

That Rudolph is a real white border card. I think that particular card has the wet sheet transfer described above, and I don't think it's trimmed. The up side of the photography is that you can see enough to know that it's a real 110 year old card, down side is that ascertaining a skilled slight trim would be difficult.
Price aside, if you're collecting the white border tobacco cards, this Rudolph would definitely be a good addition. If you're wanting all of your cards graded in slabs then maybe be selective as to which cards you purchase, maybe buy graded cards to start with and avoid the 'how will it grade' anxiety. As for that Rudolph, that is a nice card. |

The Sellers cards are real. I purchased the attached soon after he listed. Mine is in Super Condition with no trimming, creases, or evidence of altering. FYI, he will take a LOW BALL offer, or at least he did with me

And transfers like that are very common on Tolstois. To the point I'd almost wonder about one that didn't have a transfer. (Almost, if everything else is right it wouldn't bother me. )
