I've graded thousands of cards but this one intrigues me. The lot that it was sent in had about 80 or so T205/6s. Every card received a numerical graded except this card. Certainly not short. Registration is off to the right but does anyone see anything else that would qualify this T206 as just Authentic? Miscut? Scrap? Looks like a 1 or a 2 all day. I am getting older and my eyes are going so......let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

Chuck,
Good idea, I guess since this was an "original" find from an old attic, it surprises me but when I look at the card now it is certainly short side to side. Possibly also just cut short at the printers since none of the other cards graded authentic or altered. The card to me looks off in terms of miscut almost diamond cut but good idea! Maybe a kid trimmed it then thought.....what would Dr Beckett think in 70 years from now? I bought my first year Beckett in NYC on vacation in 1979 and was introduced to the wonders of cards 40 years ago! Time flies~!! ![]() Peace, Mike Last edited by vthobby; 03-03-2020 at 04:46 PM. |

Looks awfully skinny for an SC (maybe if it was an American beauty). Most definitely not short (or long)

I agree. First thing I thought was it looked skinny.

This is one area where they are a bit inconsistent.
This card is approximately AB narrow, but got a grade. Another I sent that was short by less than this is narrow got rejected for min size. I always have them not slab as authentic, that's the only way to get the reason it didn't grade. |

I've seen a few where they look factory cut, but are a little too short or too narrow. If they don't meet minimum size requirements, PSA or SGC could give the dreaded "A". I agree they aren't always consistent about it, though. The Bradley is very narrow.

I’ve been searching through past threads and this one seems appropriate for my question. I recently bought a WaJo Portrait. I’m relatively new to T206’s (this is my 8th). When I got it in hand and saw it next to my other T206’s the proportions looked off. Tall and skinny. I checked the edges with a loupe and see no evidence of trimming (I’m by no means an expert - but from reading on here think I know what I’m looking for). I measured it through the case with a precision ruler that goes to 1/32”. The dimensions I get are 1 13/32” (1.406) x 2 21/32” (2.656) for a total of 4.062”. I looked at a thread from a number of years ago where someone measured 500+ cards and listed the results. The width of mine is a hair over his smallest, the height is above average and the aggregate meets his mean total. This is a Sweet Cap back (not American Beauty). Do any of you more experienced gentlemen see anything that shouts altered to you? It’s in an SGC 3 holder. It shows even corner wear, no dog ears etc. but does display a gap at the edge. I know with SGC that’s a less reliable indicator than PSA. See pics below. Thank you for your input.

Looks fine to me; hard to fake that corner/edge wear combo, IMO.

Yeah, wouldn't sweat that Johnson one bit. You're talking 1/32(.03)" narrower than what it "should" be. That could be a factory cut, a little wear or measuring accuracy. Don't lose sleep over that card.

Thank you for the feedback, it's much appreciated.
I must admit that when I looked up T206 sizes last night to double check I read it as 1 5/8" wide. I just looked again and see my error. Last edited by Wanaselja; 10-14-2020 at 06:05 PM. |
