Certainly wouldn’t solve all the fraud out there, but why doesn’t PSA just tell us when a card was graded? Type in the number and it will say MAY 2019. If I see MAY 2019 my antenna will go up. Yes could be a raw card graded for the first time. But more likely a regrade. And then I can take a harder look at it. If it says 2004 there’s no guarantee if wasn’t monkeyed around with, but at least I know it’s not a recent flip. Not saying it’s perfect. ....

Since sports card grading is not regulated by any Federal and or State Standards/Laws, So with that being said the TPG's can make and play by their own rules with no Fed or State involvement you are at their mercy

Just a fee months ago, everyone was coveting the lighthouse holders. Now they're running from them.

Does anyone know the cert numbers starting 6/01/19? At a min, that would be helpful. It's a great idea and long overdue. I would go as far as saying NOT doing it perpetuates the fraud. They made it worse by jumping around cert numbers to really f us up. The red flip is poisoned. What happens when they upgrade their technology and review process? They certainly will want to draw a line in the sand and either date the new cards, or have a different label. There has to be some distinguishing factor on the before process (can't detect anything), and the after process (deep review of all doctoring methods). |

I say they provide a free regrade and a new flip. Cancel out all the old flips not transferred within a year

Maybe they will do as CGC does with different color flips for altered and unaltered? The more transparency the better. Now we just need to define what altered really is. Is it erasing a mark? Is it using water to get a scrap of paper off the back? Is it soaking a card? All are alterations. Maybe what we need is hobby specific definitions we can all go by. And I won't be the one trying to define them, don't worry.

Here's how to handle alterations.
If TPGs did something similar, it would go a long way. |

I'm not sure when they started adding the "warning" stamping. I think fairly recently due to too many sellers saying "it's got a good cert" when in fact it has a cert that exposes one big problem.
What I like about it, is that the item and the alteration and the damage stand apart from each other. That matters a lot in this case, as it's a recently "discovered" foreign entry - this may be the first one to get a certificate. It's been known by the handful of people that care for a few years now, but isn't listed in the catalog. It's not exactly common, I know of 6 total. If someone wants that particular stamp, they can read the cert, and decide if the fake cancel and minor damage is a no-go for them. |
