I'm thrilled to scratch this one off my want list. The only known authenticated signed example of a 1933 Goudey Earl Clark. Clark died in a car crash in 1938 at the age of 30. With this addition, I now have 224 of the 239 cards in the set signed, all of which have been encapsulated by PSA/DNA. Of the 15 I still need, PSA has authenticated examples of Ruth (149), Gehrig (160), and Friberg (105). I'm obviously very interested in tracking down those three or unauthenticated examples of the other 12. Completing this set probably isn't possible, but I've come a lot further than I ever thought I would. For anyone interested, scans of this set and the rest of my signed card collection can be found here:

Amazing Jason!
Congrats, and yes it could be a lifelong project, but the thrill is in the chase.

Words cannot describe, but amazing comes to mind. Certainly this set did you no favors by featuring multiple Ruth's and Gehrigs, but you've done a fantastic job. I notice it's not listed, and it's not technically required to complete the set, but do you have any thoughts about finding a Nap Lajoie?

My dad told me at one time he had an entire set signed that he bought from 2 brothers who got them as kids back in the 30's and 40's. This was back in the 1970's and he said he had 2 of each Ruth and Gehrig (that's 12 total!). I remember one of each framed up on the wall of our house for many years. Sadly they are all gone but what can you do? I asked him after reading this post and he said yes, the ENTIRE set was autographed along with a Lajoie! So keep looking, you'll find them all eventually (I know there's at least ONE of each out there)!
Good hunting and congrats so far, Tony

Tony,
Thank you for sharing. That is incredible. I’d love some more information about where and when he sold them. There were a few guys like Wattie Holm who never played after the set was released so I was working under the assumption that those guys were probably impossible. Jason Quote:

Jason, I wish I could offer more info but that was back in the mid to late 70's. He did say he sold them one at a time and not as a whole set. My dad has a pretty good memory but not good enough (he's 78 this year) for the finer details. There was an article written about the sale of a T206 Wagner that he was involved in and he doesn't even remember that one very well! He insists the entire set was signed (and I do remember him having multiples of Ruth and Gehrig) so I have to take him on his word. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Tony,
If your Dad is Pat Quinn, from the Chicago area, he is correct (even if he can't remember all the details). I've dealt with him for 40+ years, and remember when he got the signed 1933 Goudey sets. I bought a bunch of the cards from him in the 1970s. Wish I had purchased more! Tom Last edited by Tom Hufford; 05-01-2018 at 09:37 PM. |

Tom, yes that's him. I'll mention you to him when I see him in a couple weeks. Thanks for backing up the story. Glad someone here was part of that moment.

.
While alittle off topic, while primarily an autograph collector now, my first or second (do not remember) mail order of vintage baseball cards (T206) was Pat Quinn. The other was with Jim Mayfield. Thanks for the short walk down memory lane. Brings a smile to my face. Life seemed much simpler back then. ![]() Matter of fact, Pat's table was one of the first I visited at my first National Show in Chicago too. Last edited by HexsHeroes; 05-03-2018 at 10:24 AM. |

Looked through them all and they are such a cool collection of autographed cards. Hope you one day track them all down. |
