1907 Dietsche Ty Cobb - Fielding and Batting

Just unearthed these beauties. Both have been postmarked. Interesting content. Mentions "Still on the team. Mullin left" referring to George Mullin
- likely referring to Cobb.

Fielding Pose - $1975
Batting Pose - $1100

Grade on the Fielding is in the 2 to 2.5 range (aside from what ever they might do due to the PC being used - with postcard dated 1913). Bottom right corner crease.

Grade on the Batting is 2.5 to 3 (also has been used as a postcard with postmark). Top left corner issue and general wear.

The one dated 1913 on the back postmark goes to the Fielding card.

We just acquired 8 others as well. Jennings, Killian, Jones, O'Leary,
Coughlin, Schmidt, Donovan and Mullin.

No longer offering the Cobb Batting by itself. Going to keep it as a group.

It was fun handling them. Purchased through a postcard dealer that
purchased them in a lot of other non-sport type postcards. Neat find!

Thanks for all of the responses. From what I can tell, I was priced a bit
light on the Fielding Cobb. Just not a lot of comps out there.

Education as I said schooling. Sometimes the seller teaches the buyer and sometimes the buyer teaches the seller. Information (prices) is good for baseball card education.

Um, VCP shows an SGC 20 sold at REA in 2016 for $1,920. How did this guy get "schooled"? Sounds fairly priced IMO. And no buyer's premium to contend with....good deal for both parties. Because the PC is postmarked, it would also get a 20 from SGC. Maybe slightly underpriced, but fair and probably a win for the seller given that this was found with a lot of non-sports PCs!!

Lou is a fair man who set a fair price based on vcp. Let's not encourage price-gouging on here either!!! In reality, the REA SGC 20 went for less than it should have. Not to mention the fact that it had paper-loss, which this one did not have, and, as we all know, not all 1.5s are created equal. It happens often in large auctions with hundreds of lots where a card slips through the cracks. Interestingly, a Dietsche Cobb "batting" psa 4 sold in that same auction for 5k. And the fielding is FAR more rare. When the population on a card is under 20 or so, vcp isn't always indicative of what it CAN SELL for. They don't come up often (As rare, according to pop reports, as Cobb-backs), so when they do, the seller can ask whatever he wants within reason. Bottom line is that the seller made the profit he wanted, and the alert buyer (who beat me and quite a few others to the punch), got a fantastic deal.

I am the buyer of the Fielding Cobb. I believe Lou should be getting credit here for doing the honorable thing. He posted a fair price commensurate with the most recent sale of the card, accepted the first response, left the price up for all to see as many here have requested in recent posts and has stood by his commitment in the face of criticism.

Pricing of rare postcards is an art and not a science; obviously based on the posts here, he could have backed out of his commitment to me and potentially realized a greater profit, but this is not the path he took. I appreciate that and believe that this is the type of member/seller we all want to see here on Net54.

That was my thought, he posted a price and honored it.
Didn't hedge on the sale when it soon occurred to most that he could have net more. How many others would have done the same. Most I hope.

Just am noticing all the banter back and forth. I thought, being "the schooled
seller" that I might comment. Despite the fact that that was a pretty obnoxious comment, I absolutely should have done more homework. All I had to go on was the REA sale (and the 4 ct Somerset lot) but as Orly mentioned, mine was considerably nicer. Live and learn. Maybe when I grow up and learn about sportscards, I'll be sharp enough to sit at the big kids table LOL. (Who'd know that I have been doing this full time for 30+ years
