So I recently had an online dealer tell me that a Benny Kauff was not a common because he was Jewish. Both registries value him as a common. Although I have known a few players like Marsans and Koufax where people attach Jewish to the player, I can't say I have ever had someone hype a card because of a players religion. I consider myself pretty well versed in baseball and I can't ever recall there being any discrimination against Jews. Am I wrong about this? Should a common be more then a common because of their religion. Am I missing something?

Benny Kauff does usually command a premium, but he was not Jewish, despite what some may think. Kauff was banned from baseball by Landis because of alleged auto theft. I think that's interesting.
I have noticed that most Jewish players do command a small premium (like Barney Pelty), but I think it's because there is a niche collectors market for just Jewish players. I do the rookie card thing. You may collect only cardinals players. Some just collect Negro League players. Many collect only jewish player cards. To each his own.

There are a lot of Jewish player collectors and many, many times the cards bring a premium because of that.

How could the cards of the chosen people not be worth more? Anything else would be mashugana.

I agree that Jewish Players bring a premium.
My girlfriend is Jewish and her father collected and is so proud of these players. Even when we went to the Yankees Tiger game last year for old timers day, and Kinsler came up he goes..."he's part of the tribe". haha |
