I have finally conquered the 99 card E91 run after 8 long years. Finished it up with the E91A Mathewson, Slagle and Tenney.
http://imageevent.com/vanslykefan/pr...melcollection1 Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way...it was many of you on this board. Special shout out to Brian Parker for his insight, knowledge, and passion for this particular set. Rob

Congrats! Awesome run! I love seeing sets like this, especially those with cards that have been loved in the past.

Way to go Rob...you were able to complete all 3 series much quicker than I have been able to do (still missing 7 or 8 of the E91B issue) in a quarter of a century. Not an easy task, and each series is definitely a bit harder to complete piece by piece than some of the other caramel issues of the era, such as the E92 Dockman, E95 Philadelphia, E98 Standard. Not so much because of rarities, but rather just overall supply.
The E91's definitely deserve a little love and attention, as I believe they are the most dismissed caramel issue and certainly end up on plenty of collectors least liked prewar card lists. Even REA as recently as 2014 perpetuated the old standby 'fake design' and 'generic' labels in an auction listing of the cards. But if only people would examine a little closer into the artwork, and perhaps bother to read and check out the example comparison cards shown in the following... http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...hlight=generic ...they might come away with a slightly altered opinion about their merit. E91 cards have never been a favorite set of mine, but they should at least be better understood. I think Rube would approve, and perhaps celebrate by chasing after a fire truck or two. Brian |
