I love old baseball tintypes. I am trying to understand how this is baseball players? By the baseball bag that can't be seen, as stated? I have my own idea, and it involves Elsie. ......but maybe I don't see Joe Jackson or something...

So you are thinking they are milkmen? LOL
I don't see anything that directly links it to baseball, but am no expert on 1800s baseball. Lots of people here are so hopefully others will weigh in.

I think it's comes down to people see what they want to see. The dude on the bottom far left has his arm on somethings. Looks like a milk jug hahah . I find hard to belive that these are ball players dressed in all white with ties . There is no sign of a bat or glove. That looks like a small person on the bottom left to me. But he probably didn't listen to his mother when she told him to drink his milk. So he started a milk gang. Just my guess.

If it sells he will make a nice profit. I sold it to him for $35.

ps...yes, they look sort of like milkmen to me but it's probably too early for them.

I didn't know this guy sold things other than cut outs. This is one of those sellers that tears up old publications. He wants $100 for a cutout of the Nebraska Indians from one of the Spalding guides.

Milkmen is exactly what came to my mind when I first looked at the photo. But I'm from Wisconsin, so it may have local the regional premium.

The owner recently asked me about this photo - I responded that it was a group of milkmen (really). I am tempted to name names - we'll see where this goes.

Hmmm. Sounds like it might be a member here selling it. I know the ebay name r.cedeno, but not who the person is directly.

It's a nice enough tintype. Not everything in the world has to be baseball to have intrinsic value. Occupational tintypes (tintypes showing people showing off their occupation, often in their uniforms or work clothes and holding their tools) is a popular collecting area.

Great minds think alike. His revised description is worse than whatever was there before. What a maroon!!

I don't have a lot of experience with ebay - I suggest that those who find his description objectionable (as do I) contact ebay.
As his initial contact to me was via private email, I don't think that naming him is the way to go. |
