Has there ever been a "today in baseball history" section mentioned for Net54? I love some of the old headlines mentioned on baseballlibrary.com. Today is the day Snodgrass lets the flyball drop in and ruin the Giants season.
http://www.baseballlibrary.com/chron....php?day=today Sept 7, 1911 The Giants lose a heartbreaker to Brooklyn in the 9th inning when‚ with Bert Tooley on 1B‚ Jake Daubert lofts a high fly for the apparent 3rd out. But Fred Snodgrass drops the ball and Tooley scores the final run in the Superbas‚ 4-3 win. |

I may be wrong; however, seem to remember that Snodgrass' famous muff occurred later in the year than 9/7, and took place during a different season. Additionally, I believe it was the leadoff hitter who lofted the fly ball he dropped.
Of course, I could be wrong. Best regards, Eric

You are correct. The most famous "Snodgrass muff" occurred in the 8th game of the 1912 World Series vs the Giants.(Oct), ball hit by Clyde Engle.

9/12/1908 - NEW YORK GAZETTE - ALC has decided to print baseball player photos to be included in cigarette packs starting with the 1909 baseball season. Plans have been made to include several cigarette brands and include all the stars of the day. Rumor is that Connie Mack is so anti-cigarette that he will not be included. Several other players such as Honus Wagner and Eddie Plank may also be tough sells, but the decision has ultimately been made to include them in the initial press run. It is also decided that the baseball pictures will be printed on card stock in rows of 17. Further, it is decided to put together multiple variations in groups of 12 and to destroy all records of these decisions in the hopes that the ambiguity will incite huge fights over the printing process 100 years in the future. Many chuckles were had in the boardroom...
