OJs...
...will never have color ...will never have Cobb, Johnson, Mathewson, Plank, or Wagner ...will never have the American League ...will always have blank backs ...will have way more players and variations than can ever be documented ...will always have fewer HOFers than T206 ...only have one documented example of an autographed card (Mack) ...are usually brown and often hard to see clearly

These two sets make up about 90% of the vintage cards I have. I'd probably pick OJ's if I had to, but I like the fact that T206's are much cheaper and readily available. You don't see many(any) budget OJ collectors, so seriously collecting them isn't something that many people do

LOL John--you've got the disease and it is impossible to cure. I prefer Old Judges for the following reasons:
1. Actual photos so you can see what the players really looked like 2. The first major baseball card set 3. The variety of variations (poses, errors, team changes, etc) is unparalleled. Collecting Old Judges is a lifetime pursuit. 4. Ignoring backs, finishing the T206 set is only a matter of money. It doesn't matter how much money you have, the rarities in the Old Judge set makes "finishing" virtually impossible |

Both sets are fascinating.
I must say that the unparalleled research of Jay M., Joe G., and Richard M. along with their recent magnificent tome on the subject has captured me in recent years and tilts me to the OJs. all the best, barry |

I much prefer the T-206 over Old Judges. However, if you truly love the 19th century era most of all, collect the OJs. I imagine you'd be happier with more than a few cards, but if the few cards you would have represent the time period you favor the most, that's where you'll be more fulfilled.
Unfortunately, the cost is exorbitant no matter which of these you choose. ![]() OR, identify what cards attract your eye the most from both sets---get a little of both. No law says you have to have just one. (card company issue, that is!!) --Brian Powell Last edited by brian1961; 08-02-2014 at 11:21 PM. |

I like both for different reasons.
OJs: 1. I like the early history of baseball represented. 2. Anson, Kelly, Mack, etc. 3. Double player cards 4. Brooklyn minis 5. There are thousands of different cards in the set. T206: 1. Great HOF selection 2. Some beautiful color cards 3. Large but collectible set 4. My favorite period in baseball history 5. Nice ads on the backs and so many different types of back Overall, I lean towards T206 over OJ, but not by much. And if money were no object, I would have one hell of a collection of OJs as well as T206s. AndyH .

There are five Hogan poses, are you purposely hating on one? I have one that you need, but I'm wondering if it's the one you don't want...

all great points on both sides......I love both, but O.j.S will always be the bridesmaid to T206.....
There is no comparison to the T206 Wagner......yes, Mcgreachery, Anson Uniform......Huge cards, but don't shine a light to the popularity of WAGNER ... that one card alone will always snuff this debate when it comes to "popularity" aspect of collecting baseball cards..... even people who know nothing about baseball have heard of the "Wagner"....it spans across even hobbyists.... it has almost single "card-ed-ly" imho, kept baseball card collecting in the limelight and popular the last century..... the debate could go on for ever I think....."tastes great! / less filling"....(of the old miller lite commercials ![]() T206 vs. O.J.'s the debate will always end before it begins if the wagner is factored into the equation.... |

T206. As a Detroit Tiger and American League fan, hard for me to get excited about pre-1901 items. Would think differently if the heritage of the Wolverines were tied into the history of the Tigers officially.
