Default Danbury Mint

I hope someone can help me here. I purchased a 1999 Danbury Mint Yankees team figurine set. There are 10 porcelain figurines on a long wooded base. The seller sent it to me disassembled and is telling me this is how he obtained the pieces from Danbury (two pieces at a time). I believe these team sets were originally shipped intact, completed in a large Styrofoam container and box from Danbury. I know several teams were made over the years (Yankees, Dodgers, Reds, A's, etc). Did anyone buy any such item from Danbury when they were produced?

You are correct. They were sold in one piece and shipped in the large styrofoam.

I'm familiar with the chess set that was issues a few item at a time. There are porcelain statues mounted on a long wooden base. I am wondering if anybody bought one originally from Danbury.

I did not buy any of these when originally offered, but I know some people who still have them. You are correct - they were sold as complete sets, but I do not know how they were shipped (I assume in one container).

I still get the Danbury flyers in the mail from time to time. They're beautiful sets, but when they were originally offered I wasn't in a position to buy - I think they were something like $200 per team (?).

I see the 1927 Yankees team a lot - and that's what I would have purchased. Some of the pieces are often broken by now, especially the bats off the various players. The posts that hold the players up are also bent sometimes. I think the idea was pretty neat, especially the way they made the players/manager anatomically correct by their various heights.
