I know we have a lot of great PCL stuff - post up.
Here's an 11 x 14 sepia-toned photo of the 1928 Portland Beavers, taken outside of the SF Seals stadium. This had been hanging on a car dealership wall for many years, then was removed and stored for decades along with several others from the same period:

I picked this one up earlier this year. It is 8-3/4 inch long and is made of thin felt. I know there has to be older Angels pennants out there, but this is the oldest one I've seen in my short time collecting.

Not PCL, but worth including as a companion to the one shown above is this iconic photo of Jim Thorpe in 1921 playing with the Toledo Mud Hens. It's the most recent addition to http://www.sportingoregon.com/ and is my favorite Thorpe image. The bat looks like a matchstick in his hand.
But to stick with the PCL theme, also shown is a 1914 photo of game action at Ewing Field, rare because baseball was played there for just one year. It shows the top of the sixth inning of the second game of a September 13 doubleheader between the Oakland Oaks and San Francisco Seals Last edited by bbpostcards; 12-19-2013 at 11:04 AM. |

The Pacific National League was formerly the Pacific Northwest League. There's a great deal of history behind the name change and what happened next, more than space here allows. As the pass shows, in 1904 the league had dropped to four teams: the Boise Fruit Pickers, Spokane Indians, Butte Miners, and Salt Lake City Elders. If you have early Pacific Northwest baseball material to sell or trade, please contact me. Thanks.

Just curious, today I was offered two 1974-78 PCL 'used' baseballs (looked like typical game use, perhaps a little more) for $10 each. I passed. What is the value of such items?

Depends on the amount of use. I would estimate something like $50-60 for a nice one and go down from there depending on wear. If all the stamping was legible, I'd say $10 would have been a pretty good price, but not a kick-yourself-in-the-morning-for-passing-it-up kind of deal. That's just a gut-check number though, not based on any actual sales.

Another add to the group of shots. it was a double-header this day for the Hollywood Stars vs. Seattle Raniers from my research. Also the day of Lou Gehrig's famous farewell speech...
