Does anyone know what this is referencing, I said sarcastically.
While does some baseball research just now, I found this great snippet from the September 25,1911 issue of The Pittsburgh Press. "It was three years ago last Saturday that Fred Merkle made his bone-headed play by not touching second but since then the big Giant first baseman has made the fans forget all about the incident" Let's see some cards of this forgotten man

I dont have any cards but I can show a "monument" erected to his memory in his hometown of Watertown, Wisconsin which isnt very far from my house.
![]() While it is a decent monument it's placement seems a bit lacking as it is on the grounds of the city's famed Octagon house and is easily missed if you are not looking for it. ![]() |

I can post my one and only Merkle. Joe Yanello (Joe's Vintage Sports Cards) was kind enough to contact me about a week ago and said he had found a Merkle throwing T206 that had Howe's stamp on the back. It has been purchased and my wife will be wrapping it as a Christmas gift for me when it arrives tomorrow. I've agreed not to open the package or look at the card until the 25th. Thanks, Joe.

If Merkle was a bonehead, Evers was a dickhead.
