Just search the net54 , and didn't come up with much.
Just off the top of my head I want to say the Hagler Hearns firght in 85....whew! What a brutal first round. I have never seen two boxers who wanted to win so bad....a blazing pace. Ali had some great ones too! |

Any of these would work for me:
Ali-Frazier III [Thrilla in Manila] Leonard-Hagler Norton-Holmes

Before I clicked on the thread I was going to say Hearns v. Hagler. The best I saw.
Also, Chavez v. Taylor, Duran v. Barkley, etc. I'll think of more later. Last edited by RCMcKenzie; 09-29-2013 at 08:28 PM. |

Castillo vs. Corrales I, Pryor vs. Arguello I, Barrera vs. Morales I, Simon Brown vs, Vince Pettwat, and Saad-Muhammad vs. Lopez I think I is the better 1? but could be 2? These are a few more that instantly came to mind.

Pryor v. Arguello 1 was a great one. I used to play a computer video game of this match-up in college in the late 80's. I always took Pryor.
Some more good ones that I saw... Foreman v. Qawi, Ali v. Spinks, more recently, Ward v. Gotti trilogy |

Most of the obvious choices have already been named. The glaring omission so far is Dempsey-Firpo -- 11 knockdowns in 3:57 and Dempsey comes back from getting knocked out of the ring to win. I don't remember anymore if Burt Sugar always put that fight at number one on his list of greatest heavyweight title fights of all time or greatest fights overall of all time.
Another fight that is always named on lists such as this is Foreman-Ron Lyle -- just an absolute slugfest. Last edited by Bored5000; 09-29-2013 at 09:27 PM. |

Cool , All these great fights. No wonder it's called "the sweet science" poetry, pure poetry.

Castillo vs. Corrales I is probably my favorite of modern times.
Israel Vazquez vs. Raffy Marquez I,II, III is one of the great under-rated modern rivalries of all-time. All fantastic fights fought at the level of Castillo-Corrales. I was at the first two Gatti vs. Ward fights, which were pretty special but fought at a lower skill level then the above two examples. Ali vs. Frazier I may be one of the greatest "events" of boxing history, where the fight actually lived up to the hype. From an action standpoint, you can't lose with any Matthew Saad Muhammad or Bobby Chacon fight from the prime of their careers. Hagler vs. Hearns may be the greatest 2+ rounds of all-time. Really too many to count. Don't think I can absolutely name just one fight. |
