Hey Guys,
I ran across this JSA certified Ruth auto on ebay, and had a quick question. It seems like the cert is legit (verified on their website), but I'm confused about the date of the cert (Oct 23, 2012) and the date of the photo11/15/2006. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BABE-RUTH-FR...item3cd19be349 They would have to have the auto "in-hand" to certify it...wouldn't they? And taking the photo at the time of certification would seem logical, so I'm not sure why the 6 year gap between the photo and the certification. I have a couple of JSA certified auto's, and all the photo's are dated within a couple days of the certification itself. Maybe this is common, but hoping someone can shed some light. Thanks. |

Only a couple reasons I can think of. Maybe the original cert was lost and this is the replacement cert with original photo. Or maybe this is the full cert from an auction house that had the item pre-certed in 2006.

Maybe the date on the digital camera was wrong

Curious I agree. Even if it was certed at a previous date, I would think, with their point of getting the letters notarized, that they'd update the photo. I find it hard to believe on a legit letter the date of the photo wouldn't match the date of the letter-- if only to to make sure it looks Kosher. I'm sure the notarization is half for safety and half for show.

Maybe they took the photo for insurance purposes, but when they decided to sell, they got it certed?

I thought of that, but I can't imagine that JSA would use someone else's photo of item (even if it's the submitter).

Good points. Are replacement certs denoted as such in any way? With two certs floating around for the same item, it opens the door for unscrupulous activity.

In this case, I Think it is possible the original LOA was damaged and sent in for a replacement. Because the sticker number was new, I presume they had to issue a whole new LOA, but could still use the original photo from their files. Just speculating...

It is possible the JSA letter was updated or changed for whatever reason and JSA used the old image which they had on file.
