I've been collecting the 55 Dodgers for a few years now, but it was not love at first sight. For the longest time I did not understand what the big deal was about a team that only won 1 championship. It wasn't until my friend dragged me to a card show (I had taken a break from collecting for a few years) in 1988 where I got to meet and talk to Duke Snider that I started drinking the Brooklyn koolaid. Add to that a few magazine articles and documentaries and I've become a true fan of this hard luck team that many times took the powerhouse Yankees to 6 and 7 games in the series, only to lose...except in 55.
I currently have 29 players/managers/coaches/front office out of 39 that I've identified to collect. All of the players are relatively easy to find, although the price for some of them, like Jackie Robinson, have been climbing steadily over the past few years. These Dodgers are a lot of fun to collect and of all the teams I collect, they are the only team that I am not framing and matting together in one framed project. Instead, I am dedicating an entire wall in my memorabilia room to them. Who else is collecting this great Dodger team? I'd like to hear what you have and what problems/stories you have in regards to collecting them. Here's a couple of things I have that will hopefully start this thread going: First is the autograph of Duke Snider that got me started. Second is a photo of Ebbets field signed by 36 Brooklyn players including 7 from 55. Last is a signed photo of Sandy Amoros making his famous game 7 catch. |

I just one a Brooklyn bat signed by 106 guys in the Heritage auction that just ended so that will be the center piece of my collection. I will be selling 3 Brooklyn autographed bats with a number of autographs on each one in the BST section to pay for the one I just won if any Brooklyn collector is interested. I'll post pictures of my collection as soon as I can. I'm am trying to collect single signed balls of all the 55 team but need the tough ones and they are hard to find. I also collect pins and odd ball stuff. Also trying to get the ticket stubs of all 7 game and need 2 more for that.

Great stuff guys! Keithsky, I'm also collecting single signed balls (not all of them though) but that's mainly out of necessity since I already had a few of the HOF'ers and I'll be able to put them on a shelf on my Dodger wall which will take up less space. Here are a few more autos.

While I grew up in LA, when I moved to the East Coast I developed an appreciation for what the Dodgers meant to Brooklyn before moving out west in 1958. The 1955 team will always be remembered.
I have 2 signed 1955 items. The first is a 1955 Spring Training roster signed by everyone in camp that spring. That includes ownership (O'Malley), announcers (Connie Desmond and Vin Scully), and players that wouldn't make the squad that year (like Drysdale, Pignatano and Charley Neal). With 49 signatures, it is also unique in that it has all 8 key Dodger HOFer's: Jackie, Campy, Duke, Pee Wee, Lasorda, Koufax, Alston, Drysdale, and a rare "Junior" Gilliam sig. front again002.jpg The second item is a signed 1955 Dodger Yearbook. While not as complete, since it is missing guys like Erskine and Amoros, it is easier to read. 1955 signed Dodger yearbook2.jpg |
