This E121-80 "Babe" Ruth was recently listed on ebay here: Link. I've attached an image from the auction. No back scan was given.
The auction ended early since I'm assuming that the seller sold it offline. However, I am still curious to see if the card was genuine. The color of the card looked strange and faded, but I wanted to know if there are any other determining characteristics that others can see from the picture to determine if the card is real or not? I don't believe the E121-80 series is heavily reprinted. However, obviously, any card of value is very likely to have fakes, especially Ruth's of this value. |

I know one of the things that people look for in determining fakes is what other cards this seller is selling. If they are only selling cards that are notorious for being faked, then this card is likely to be fake as well. Therefore, I went to sunsetauction.com that was listed in the picture and went to the auction that the seller purchased the card from. There were only high value cards in the auction, I believe there are known fakes of Brunners. However, there was also an E107 common which I don't believe is faked very often.

That E107 isn't a common, it's a HOFer.

These cards must have been in grandpa's attic. This is akin to winning the lottery twice in a row. It could happen but.....

Strange that there are only 4 cards, they are all from different sets, all HOFers, the years of issue range from 1903-1924. Grandpa must have been spending time in Cuba during the 1920s to find the Johnson!

They actually had a bunch of other cards at the auction, all fairly suspicious of course.

Grandpa had a keen eye for quality.
