So... Lemme get this straight. The back of these cards say, "One Of A Set Of 50 Base Ball Players", right?
So.... How come there are only 40? A little detail about the composition of E92s and the various backs would be much appreciated. Somehow I began collecting this set today... Thanks!

It's just my guess but it so people would purchase more of the product they came in to try to obtain the 10 that don't exist.

I get sidetracked sometimes... Once it was e95s, another time it was m116s. This time it's Dockmans. I picked up a nice group of 5 at the White Plains show.
I need something to keep me interested in-between signed T206 cards, some of which I have started to compile doubles and even triples. Unsigned T206s don't motivate me quite as much as they used to. But I wouldn't start calling me E92Collector just yet!

The back was likely lifted from E101, which was indeed 50 cards.
I don't think anyone knows for sure why Dockman cut 10 cards, but the theory floated on the caramel-cards website is that part of it had to do with where the candy companies were located. Six of the ten cards cut by Dockman were Philly players. While Crofts (from Philly) wanted those players in the set, Dockman (from Baltimore) cut them. But it does not explain why Cobb and others were cut too: http://www.caramel-cards.com/e92.html Cheers, Blair
