Default Old Judge Book

$24.95 shipped by media mail.

Seller has numerous copies at this price and even offered 10 copies at $200 shipped.

This is the same Ebayer mentioned in a previous thread.... xmehc

She normally ships in 24 hours. Email: ever42o@yahoo.com

I can vouch for her. I have bought 3 copies from her and she always ships fast and the books are in mint/unread condition.

The email address was what she (Shannon) wanted me to use for PayPal. Maybe you should try to contact her Ebay user ID.

I just picked one up from ebay seller "bobkingauctions" - it arrived yesterday. They were selling for $29.95 with free UPS shipping.

He might have a few more left for anyone who's interested.

If you go to eBay and look up the user ID in #1 post, you can message her and she will tell you to PP her $24.95 (I just did $25) and she will send it off. She is quite nice and will get back to you quickly.

Default The seller is legit

I just bought a copy of the book this seller had on a ebay auction that ended today. I won mine for 30.00 dollars with the shipping. I can't wait until it gets here. I have been debating what to get into now that I have several Fred Toney items for my collection and I think I am going to get into old judges and all the board members told me this is the best source of information on the set.

There is another seller that has three copies on ebay right now in the BIN section of ebay. He wants 39.99 plus shipping, which is still a fantastic deal as well.

I think you can look at this 2 ways. I bought the book when it was released. Last year at the National I found a card that was listed, but not pictured. The card was not in the best condition, but without the book I would have never bought this card. Jay did not have this pose and offered a great trade for it. I made up the cost of the book nearly 10 fold.

Thanks!

Great story.

Given the amount of research, effort, and expense that it takes to produce a quality book such as this, I'm of the opinion that it is well worth the list price. I personally don't collect Old Judge cards, but I have enjoyed having it as a resource. When people like Jay and Richard choose to share their knowledge with the hobby, I am one who is very appreciative.

This absolutely sums up my feelings. The book is an incredible resource and one that I've turned to many times. The detail in which it explores the set card by card and the quality of the book overall is phenomenal. The fact that some copies are being made available by book wholesalers at a fraction of the price doesn't make me regret at all buying the book when it was released. It's not uncommon for publishers or bookstores to produce or buy more copies than they need and then turn to wholesalers to recoup some of their outlay. It happens with almost every book out there.

Fred,
Sorry but I don't have a pic. I only had the card for a short time. After showing it to Jay, we made the trade. It was Ed Herr, pose 225-2. The card had 5 fairly sharp corners, and was very faded at the edges. However, it was a card that Jay needed and he was very happy to get it. I guess I could have tried to get more, but I'm not trying to complete the set and I like cards with pictures I can see clearly. Also, I am glad to be able to help another collector. It is rare that a collector of my modest means can help an advanced collector with Old Judge.
Tha funny thing is that without the knowledge that Jay provides with the book, I would not know what to look for.

That's just the nature of books.........a run of 500 books costs probably 80-85% of what a run of 1000 books costs and beyond that, the per book price is even cheaper. So, the sellers try to get the bulk of their cost in that first batch of 500 with profit falling into the second. A book like Richard, Jay & Joe (people don't always mention Joe in discussing the book) produced costs a LOT of money to produce--especially with as many as they likely produced. I gladly paid the $125 even though I don't collect OJ's any more (for now). It's a work of art. The $24.95 versions will dry up soon........they're being offered in the REA catalog at $60.00. Still a bargain.

I was trying to be funny with 5 sharp corners. One corner had a small clip making an extra corner.
